2009 GT S Auto - Exhaust Valves

Hi Gents,

After a LOT of research I've finally purchased, but yet to pick up, a 2009 GT S Auto (with 4 tip exhaust) but I have to say I came very close to holding off for an MC-Shift just for the sound. I'll be honest, I feel in love with this car but in love with the sound of another and now somehow need to combine the two!

I've read a number of posts on this site and others and I have to say I'm still a little confused when it comes to the exhaust valves. I know on the later autos (with the MC Shift style oval exhaust) you can control the valves using the sports button. I understand this isn't the case with the 2009 auto however I was under the impression the values would open above 3500 revs. What's really confused me though is that the dealer has said there aren't any valves on this model. Is he right or does he just mean there's no valve control system?

I guess what I'm really trying to find out is whether the remote valve control kits will work with this car or whether I need a whole new exhaust.

Thanks in advance!
Pete

Pete,

My 2010 GTS AUTO, has valves in the exhaust, that open automatically at 3kRPM. Im pretty sure the 09 Models would have the same.

PM me your VIN and i can check it out for you if you want.

Regards

Agree with Noor. Your dealer is mistaken. You need to be in sport mode though like on the F1 shift car.

Evening Gents,

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the replies.

It's 100% a 4.7 GT S with ZF Auto. I had read on another forum (albeit US forum) that the 2009 autos came with the same exhaust setup as the GT 4.2. There was an explanation from a Formula Dynamics guy but it wasn't quite clear if this meant the exhaust was with or without valves.

It could be quite likely the guy I spoke to at my dealership yesterday made a mistake. I had actually been dealing with a different guy who was on holiday yesterday. I did however spoke to him shortly after posting this message and he said he was sure the exhausts did have valves. He but he said he would check and get back to me.

Noor, I actually spoke to you earlier in the week! :) I noticed a few of your posts earlier too and stumbled on a vid. Your setup sounds v.nice! I'll ping you my VIN number now. Would be good to get this cleared up once and for all so I can discuss upgrades! :)

Cheers,
Pete

Hi Pete,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your excellent decision. Be warned that being in close proximity to Noor's exhaust can make your ears hurt!

When will you collect the car and where are you based?

Hi Adam,

Thanks very much! Just desperate to pick it up now. I'm just outside Bedford and hoping to pick it up by next weekend. They're removing a small dent and respraying the bonet as there were a few noticable scratches. I have a feeling the car may have been owned by someone on here actually as I saw a post saying they were selling a Nero 2009 Auto with black leather and white/ligh grey stiching about a month ago. That's pretty much it! I'll find the post again later and reply!

You're definately right about Noors exhaust! On that video clip I'm pretty sure I saw a small child cowering in a door way as Noor unleashes the fury!!! ;-)

Doesn't need clearing up mate. If its a 4.7 then it has the valves unless they have been removed/are faulty.

Enjoy the car.

Good combo, sjc. Just be sure to get it down to your friendly local MD for a thorough check-over before the warranty runs out, get any little issues fixed on Maserati money rather than yours!

Must be one of the first MC Shift cars in the country if its 3 months away from its fifth birthday.

Thanks Bob! That's good to know...I can continue thinking about adding the valve control option through Noor then!

Very nice sjc! Enjoy!

Yep, it will be booked in with Roberto at Grimaldi about a month or so before it runs out,and then on to a MD for any end of warranty work.Got a silly quote for the basic 6 year extended warranty which I won't be bothering with, but my Noble dealer whom I've dealt with for 21 years has come up with a decent warranty that I can apply for a 3 year period. Labour rate is only £70 per hour, but its very comprehensive, and they've had no problems in payouts yet.Might go with that.
