I've seen a nice QP 4.7S and I'm quite interested, but i hanker I think for a GTS. Keen to understand the differences?

Not really much in it. The car I have seen has the 20" 7 spokes, and the interior looks the same as the GTS except it has piano black inlays, not carbon.

The only disappointment is the exhaust, where it has the"Twin pipe exhaust chrome plated" instead of the "dual oval pipe exhaust system with black stainless steel and electronically controlled bypass valves".

There are also some pre-facelift GTS with the duo select box kicking about. I'd prefer the duo-select I think, but these older cars are a bit more "used" which concerns me, as I intend to rack the miles up on this a bit. Its a hard choice to buy either or do nothing.

How I wish I could get another 3200GT (that didn't rust, and was up to being a daily driver)...

"it has the"Twin pipe exhaust chrome plated" instead of the "dual oval pipe exhaust system with black stainless steel and electronically controlled bypass valves".

And that makes the interstellar difference between the two cars and why it's worth holding out for the GTS......the S will always lack that je ne sais quoi!

Cheers Wattie

Oh dear.

Does the GTS Auto work like an MC-Auto Gran Turismo? That is, it does not downshit when you floor it in Sport mode? (The result is a much more DuoSelect like drive....)

The full blown GTS 4.7 is a bit out of budget (like the Gran Turismo, values could crash at any moment).... Has anyone got a 4.2 Duo Select GT? Whats that like? (I've only driven a 2006 QP duo select - std model...) so interested it comparisons - decent sporty gearchange and noise are my priority.

Thanks

I could be wrong, but am pretty sure they didn't make a duo-select GTS. The GTS only came out when the auto box appeared in 2007. It's still possible to get a relatively low milage 4.2 lt GTS from circa 2008 and I prefer it to the later 4.7 lt GTS (which looks to heavy and be-skirted for my taste).

But if budget matters, why not just get a nice, low mileage 4.2 duo-select GT Sport instead? Maybe a 2007. Very nice, but without the premium of the GTS and with your (and my) preferred gearbox.

On both the GT and QP they kick down in manual mode as you say only on the 4.2 (mad feature IMHO) but the 4.7 does not.

HI BigBob,

Very useful info. To be certain you are saying the auto box in the 4.7 does not kickdown in manual mode - correct?

Is this the same for all 4.7 Gran Turismos also? That would mean there is nothing that special about the MC-Auto from a gearbox perspective right?

Thx

My GTS Auto does not kick down in normal or sport manual mode and is pretty aggressive in sport manual, enough to keep my happy. It changes up at the red line automatically and will drop down the gears as revs get too low just like the CC/DS. The box is certainly a lot more engaging than that in the 4.2 if in manual mode.

I have not driven an MC Shift Auto but have driven an MC Shift which confirmed that I have the right gearbox for me.

The other thing I would have to do to the QP S is change that horrid grill at the front to a GTS one.

Have you seen the QP GTS for sale at Quirks Car Company in Essex? For me, this is the ultimate QP V. And at about £26k, not one to break the bank. On a black car such as this, the darkened window surrounds, door handles and exhaust tips finish it off superbly, and the fixed-rate Bilstein dampers are preferable to the sky-hook system used on the normal and GT Sport variants. Here's the link:

Have that saved in my favourites Ewan been for sale for a while....wish I could afford it to honest.....As you say a lovely car and on the GTS I also like the black leather alcantara with the white stitching. It looks a well priced car. . . . . and bloody stunning.

Ewan,

I don't think this is a GTS 4.7, looks to me like a 4.2 GT Automatic? The 4.2 Auto (QP or GT) are not a drivers car as they kick down whenever you boot it - even in sport mode. Gearchange in Sport Mode (IMO) should only ever be from the paddles or at redline.

YOu are right it is a 4.2 QP SPort GTS.....But its the best of that generation and very rare. It's a great drivers car but if you want the best of the best then the QP Sport GTS 4.7 is the one.

I've the 4.2 GTS and to knowledge its the only one in NI. Sport mode holds revs up to 7k and shifts 33% quicker, in addition to firming up the springs. As a sports car, The GTS is superior over the Sport GT or Executive because of the lower ride, wider rear wheels, 6 pot brembos and remodeled seats. It's also a bit lighter with the a carbon dash, gearknob, door panels etc.

Above all the GTS has a meaner stance with red calipers, black window surrounds, black exhaust tips, 20" wheels, black grill and lower ride as mentioned.
