2008 Maserati Granturismo 4.2 For Sale

Hi Guys
Its with an unbelievably heavy heart that I make an initial step towards advertising my Granturismo.
As is usual. I'm offering it here first. I would hope that it goes to another owner who will treat the car
as all of its owners have treated it.
Not unusually for Northern Ireland, I know or know of, its three previous owners. (must check if its three or four)
They were all guys with deep pockets, who serviced the car at the main dealers where it was first registered.
Charles Hurst, in Belfast. Because I'm on the North Coast and because like many, I don't rate this franchisee,
I've had it serviced every twelve months, no matter what mileage was done. Turns out very little.
I think it's less than 10,000 in my ownership. I've had most of the car repainted by one of the top body shops in
N.I. and all the mechanical work has been done by two small independents on my doorstop, who usually have something exotic with a V8 being worked on.
When I bought it, the battery was low and needed changed. So the first time I turned the key, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and I nearly had a heart attack. A few hours later and a new battery and all was well and as expected.
Nothing has failed on the car since and all I've had to buy are consumables and tyres. I need to confirm exact dates,
but the oil etc was changed annually at a minimum.
So the bodywork is as good as you see. Probably better up close, because I took this photo with a mobile.
The engine is glorious. All the electrics and mechanicals are as they should be. This is the most exotic car I've owned
and the engine just loves to rev. The sound is heavenly and for that reason, as I was told when I joined here, while looking for the car, I hardly ever used the stereo. Its standard, like everything else. But apart from turning it on and off, I don't have much of a clue. The front passenger speaker doesn't work and this won't be an expensive fix. If I can, I'll have it seen to prior to sale. I used the stereo so little, I kept forgetting to get it fixed.
I did have the resonator or middle box removed from the exhaust and this was replaced with a straight steel tube of the highest quality. Effectively this makes normal driving mode sound like sports mode and sports mode sound that bit louder. But, when driven normally, she just burbles and growls, so the neighbours won't mind. I have this safely stored, should you wish to put it back. (quick, simple, cheap job)
Reasons for advertising. My health has declined since I bought her and getting in and out with two ruptured discs isn't very dignified. I'm semi-retired and studying again to achieve a career change. Also hoping to do my RYA Yachtmaster offshore, if I can get fit in time. So, that no matter what course my health takes, I'll be leaving N.I. again soonish to be able to develop an income.
There are no autobhans where I live and there's a very diligent traffic police unit on my doorstep, so from the get go, I've had to be incredibly careful, to keep my licence. I haven't had the car anything near the red line. My driving skills aren't too shabby, but its the other drivers I might be blasting past, I wouldn't trust.
The interior is that deep red leather option and is unmarked except for a little wear on the driver's bolster. This can easily be fixed. I keep forgetting. So far as Charles Hurst can tell, she's never needed the variators seen to,
She's a 2008 car. 80,000 miles roughly. Absolutely any inspection welcomed. With prior arrangement, I can ask my mechanic to put her on his ramp, nearby. VRM is TEZ9953. More photos to follow.
I'm asking £20,000, or very near offer. (very near)
This has been the most reliable car that I've owned and I never expected that, given the anecdotes floating around.
Very highly regarded car transporters are available, should you reside on the UK mainland.
Forgot to add. She's been stored for a year or so, so she'll be going to my mechanic first, within the next fortnight
to check her thoroughly and if possible MoT her. MoT centres here are all closed, but they're issuing one year extensions, so I'll apply for that tomorrow. (Tuesday June 2nd)

Thanks Dave. She is fabulous. This is genuinely heart breaking.

Oops. I thought I went back and corrected that omission. 4.2.
Yes, she's maybe a bit on the high side price-wise for a 4.2.
But, she IS immaculate and the new owner will have nothing to do
for at least a year.
Most importantly. Knowing her previous three owners. I would bet a lot
of money, that she's never been abused. Nothing in three years of
ownership makes me suspect otherwise, for a second.
How much is THAT worth? :)

Cheers Loz. I won't say where I was in 1987. Suffice to say. It wasn't anywhere near as much fun as a 43ft cat!
The sea is my happy place and if I can sort out my fitness and get the Yachtmaster Offshore in Gib, I plan to do delivery work, before buying my own liveaboard. Its past time to focus on quality of life.

Good luck with the sale, I’m really sorry to hear of your health issues. A friend of mine has spinal issues plus a fused vertebrae. I take him out a couple of times a year, he can’t even get in/out of the GS without two of us helping him.
Sending you best wishes with your health.

Thanks mate. I think I spent 12 or 18 months looking and I finally ended up with a car with no hidden surprises.
That's partly why selling her is so hard to do.
Few people understand how bad blown discs can be. I thought it was hilarious a few years back, when I heard a famous singer say that he would've ended it all, if an op hadn't fixed his slipped disc within a year. But, we all tolerate different things differently, so I'm not quite so quick to judge, these days.
I'm heading into my fourteenth year of unending pain and I've had enough. I have to get fit again, despite what it costs me in pain, so I can at least do a few of the things that make me happy. Like sailing.
Be the best friend that you can be, to the guy you mentioned. It can be small moments of joy. Like the sound of and riding in a Maserati, that can make life worth living. Nothing beats close friends and family obviously. But a screaming Maserati gets kind of close I think :)

Not a car response but I understand your pain. I've had back issues for over 15 years. Unless you've been there its hard to understand the impact on your life. However, last year I had a spinal cord stimulator fitted. Doesn't fix the problem but provides 24x7 pain relief is this an option? For me it has been a revelation. There is still some pain and my movement is restricted but better than its been for over a decade.

Is 20k priced high for a well looked after 4.2 ....I don't think so...Yes 80k on the clock but I bet there are dogs out there at 17k which is where prices seem to start. Yours is worth every penny.

I too can sympathise about back pain. Had disc problems on and off for 20 years, but then 5 years ago, after a two week period of the worst back pain I had ever experienced, I was radiologically diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome and rushed into A&E. Unfortunately, NHS negligence meant I collapsed pre-surgery in indescribable pain and then spent 24 hours paralysed and numb from the waste down before I got the disc-decompression surgery I urgently needed. Even after further surgery, I still now have pain, numbness and other body dysfunction, and still fighting for compensation after they admitted negligence 5 years on.

What astonishes me is that people with recurring lumbar disc problems are not routinely warned about the CES risk and the symptoms they need to look out for - pain is the least of your worries if you develop CES and it is not treated urgently. Worth some time reading up on this if you have lumbar disc issues, if you ever develop bilateral leg pain, numbness below the waist or any change in bowel or bladder function alongside The back pain, you at very high risk of developing CES and you need to be scanned and reviewed by a spinal surgeon urgently. Don’t be fobbed off

You have to laugh at life sometimes. I say that with Monty Python's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life playing in my head.
Which it does a lot. Funny ******* is God. (if he exists)
It's taken thirteen years of almost constant severe back pain, the results of which are necessitating me selling the best car I've ever owned and when I mention this as the reason for me selling my Maserati, I hear information from other sufferers, which I ought to have heard from orthopaedic surgeons a very long time ago. I have and have had various of the the CES symptoms you mentioned at various times and this the first time I've heard of CES.
Saying thank you wouldn't even begin to convey a tiny fraction of the gratitude I feel, for you sharing what you have and especially sharing what is probably the most useful piece of information anyone has shared with me, since the start of this saga.
I am deeply, deeply grateful for you making me aware of this. Unfortunately, right now, I just can't put into words, how grateful I am.
I think you get the idea though :)

UA, have you had spinal surgery to help with your back pain? I’m guessing not. If not, I would suggest you need an MRI scan and then to see a spinal surgeon privately who specialises in disc decompression and similar procedures. I can understand surgeons wanting to treat back pain conservatively as many cases resolve without the need for it. But with your history, something needs to be done. And the days of vertebrae fusion surgery are largely in the past. The keyhole spine surgical procedures available now are amazing and should be able to provide you with relief from your pain.

If you have had some of the symptoms I have described, you may be teetering on the brink of CES and they should be taking urgent action to prevent you developing it. It is a condition that is quite rare, but which the NHS has a history of being poor at identifying, and sadly ends up paying out hundreds of £ millions every year in compensation for the permanent disabilities patients end up with.

Thanks for that. Wish I knew your first name :) I have a fabulous collection of MRIs and my original ortho was keen to cut (big surprise) but mine are the lowest discs and my weight has crept up, so surgery isn't an option. I need to spend the rest of this year tabbing around the coast, burning calories. Then I may have some choices.

Good luck with the sale it does look it excellent condition
Thanks. It is. I listened carefully to the more sensible members here ;) and went down the preventative route.
Catch everything early and do what she needs. And then some. She looks much better than when I bought her.

Mine were L3/4, L4/5 and L5/S1, L3/4 being the one that did the most damage to my spinal chord. I think I’d still be getting a second opinion on the surgery options from a specialist. My name is Robert by the way. And I too wish you luck with the sale of your lovely car.

Looks mint.
In my short experience of buying cars, I will always pay extra for a well maintained example, rather than being stung by the bad ones with chequered history.
