2008 Granturismo Tail light LED Faliure

Hi, I've recently been pulled over as my rear position lights aren't visible at night.
Many of the LEDs are dim or have already failed.

All other rear lights work.
The current plan is to cut open the housing and replace the individual lights on the board.

Has anybody done this before?
Any advice would be helpful. I've only seen a single YouTube video even opening up the case so far.

Any references or advice would be appreciated.
Even simple things like a diagram for which pins in the light connector do what.

My guess it would be water damage to the printed circuit boards caused by water ingress

I think the lack of leaning resources does suggest I'll need to do a write up.

The cost of new lights is tough to stomach over a few failed leds

I'll do a post if I get anywhere
 
Are they failing across all 4 rear clusters? That seems kind of unusual, albeit consistent.
 
I'm having a similar issue on my 2016 GTS where the right hand inner led is now longer working. I'm going to check the wiring in the left hand boot flexi first, and failing that here's the link to guy on ebay who fixes them:

Would this be an MOT failure? Outer works fully (although doesn't look it on the picture), just inner that has failed.

Ive just paid the guy on Ebay. Turn around is quick and the lights are looking good.

Inners seem cheap enough that it might be worth a punt buying some second hand ones from a breakers.


The price on ebay seems abut high for the smaller ones (at 175)
 
Before you repalce the inner lights.

Try swapping your outer lights.

I found when the car wasn't happy with my outer lights it didn't send power to the inner side lights

Should tell you if they're working

Good that you sorted it.

We left the thread with you thinking we going to take them apart. Did you get anywhere with that? Did it look extremely difficult? I dont blame you for not having a crack at it i just wonder how the ebay chap does it
 
I sent them off as I had to take the car off the road for some other repairs that consumed my time.

I think if your handy with a soldering iron it's doable. The issue is had was time. Didn't fancy the trial and error of finding the right LEDs and my dad who's got the skills was busy.

Personally I still think its very achievable for the average person who works on electronics as a hobbyist.


So no matter what you cutting open plastic hosuong behind the lens and resoldering the joints or ideally replacing each led.

The ebay guy did a reslly clean job sealing the kights back up woth silicone and resin

That is good to know. If and when mine fail I will take a peak...but given the cost of replacement lights i can see the complete sense in someone who does it regularly do the work.

Incidentally the company ecu testing will not repair and ecus where an attempt has already been made. So it's generally a case of let a pro do it...or do it yourself but success must be 100 percent and no less
 
I was planning to send mine off this week, but thought I'd do some checks first and turns out the wire for the light was broken where the loom goes through the boot flexi. Wire repaired and all working again!
