2006 GranSport LE what the bloody **** is this !!!

G'day, Is anybody aware of why this aerial is mounted on the passenger side rear quarter panel?

No idea but I think early 4200's has them there but could be wrong.

Early "classico" 4200s had their aerials mounted this way. Later 4200s and the GS tend to have the radio aerial embedded in the windscreen and where applicable, a small GPS shark fin colour coded antenna on the roof for coupe or on the boot lid for Spyders. Could be a factory thing where they had a spare early coupe bodyshell? Who knows with Maserati!

I also agree, I looked at a few early Spyders and they were the same, it really is horrible. Was the Gransport not out in 2006? Maybe an early 4200 with Gransport kit on?

Suggest getting the VIN number and running it past a main dealer to find the build spec, sure they would help.

Gransport overlapped with the 4200. Gransport was available 2005 to 2007 although there may be a few 2008 models around the same as there are 2008 4200 registered vehicles.

The standard 4200 and GS aerials or both of them in the case of 2004 onwards 4200's are pretty poor. Fitted to both the front and rear screen. Its probably an after market fit to cure the rubbish reception.

Chaps, mine is 2003 and aerial is not on the rear wing. Something else should be the reason, I guess.

My classico has it, but its put to full usage.
Both the radio and GSM built in phone (as the aerial is also used for the GSM built in phone) have exceptional reception.
Personally, don't mind the look, although that appears to be angled back more than normal!

That's what I think.
My windscreen aerial radio reception is pants...the only reason that it doesn't bother me is because of the wonderful v8 sound instead

Ahhh - so THAT's what that line down the middle of the windscreen is. That's the one thing that everyone asks about when they are in the car... I remember, before buying it, a thread about a little green light in the 3200...

Yep the line is the front windscreen is one of the aerials. There is something called the diversity control box which takes both aerial signals and then picks the best signal between the two. There are also two inline amplifiers before the signal gets to the diversity box. They were only fitted on 2004 onwards cars. Prior to that you had the bee sting aerial and better recption.

Mine is March 03 and has screen aerials no bee sting.

Sorry for drift, but if I get, for example, an Alpine DAB CDE 1368T to replace the Becker, the windscreen aerial will, or (probably won't) work? I see that they talk about another aerial being needed.. & will the headunit control the CD changer in the boot?

Better only from the point of view that it was a standard aerial straight into the NIT without multiple in line signal boosters and the diversity box to stuff things up along the way when the go wrong.

Can't answer your questions on compatibility but you'll definitely need an aerial upgrade as the FM one won't work and if the give you one in the box it'll be ****

Thanks... time to do some more research - haven't seen anything as inconspicuous as the original head unit yet but at least with the ability to change the colour of the illumination which seems to be common now one can make it less garish.
