Looks lovely but Porsche ownership was a money pit in my experience!

I've been thinking about acquiring a parts car to raid, and have been scoping out coparts for one with good bits, but beyond saving. There is a 4200 spyder in sad shape right now I'm looking at, but what intrigues me is a build date of Dec. 2001. It is the earliest date I have seen. Any thoughts on when production started?
