Only makes sense if you have access to parts and can do the work yourself, some people do.

They do come away, the coupling wears and there is a solution. It's a £200 fix!!!!

Maverick could have saved that!

The nut that holds the oil pipe on the base of the oil tank suffers from dissimilar metal corrosion and over a period of time will split. The remedy is to get a split nut solution from Maverick. Drain the oil and remove the old nut via hack saw. Clean up the oil pipe end thoroughly with IPA or a similar de-greasing product (Brake Cleaner).Smear a small bead of oil sealing compound around the spilt nut back edge and the split itself and fit around the end of the oil pipe. Tighten up the split nut to form a single regular nut and hand tighten the nut onto the oil tank. Refill with new oil and check its level before starting the engine and pour in more till its at the correct level. It takes around 60 mins from drain to refill to do.

Otherwise, you can change the oil pipe but the problem with re-appear in ten years. and it will cost you around £800 as the oil pipes route is tortuous to say the least. You'll be off the road for a week or so.

Guess which solution I chose!

Oh and while you're at it check the transmission and fill up the washer bottle (with washer fluid!) and you're good to go.

Copart describe it as undercarriage damage, hence my off-road comment. I'm sure there is a lot more you can't see.

Was it running and losing the oil at the same time as it could be game over.
I wonder if the car is running just with a major leak.
I was Lucky with mine especially buying it blind but they were worth more 4 years ago.

Just can't see the point at that price as there are decent early 4200's up for 10k & much less. Seems better allround to break this one sadly.

YJ53JFX sold for £7,500... add on the various fees and you are looking at £8k at least I would suspect. From the photos, the front bumper looked damaged and having seen some YouTube videos of how they move non-runners to the collection bay you could expect more damage still. Wonder if the oil leak was cause by a forklift catching the feeder pipe? Even if a relatively cheap fix I suspect there is little left in this car to make it a worthwhile buy other than the fact it is MedBlu.

There's no way a fork lift can catch the oil pipe, it's protected by a rather large plastic undertray.

It may well do Phil. Much more potential downside than upside though. I'm more than happy to take risks & take a punt on stuff but I'll always assess the upside & downsides first. This one just has nowhere to go north value wise so why take a risk when there will be many straighter cars for not much more.
