1977 Merak SS/Bora heater control valve

The cabin temperature cable on my Merak SS (with Bora dash) became disconnected this week. The operation was very stiff and I guess that the clamp at the cabin control lever end of the system became loose. I have refixed the cable behind the dash, but I would like to lubricate the heater control valve to see if this eases the stiff operation. Does anyone know where to access the heater control valve please?

I have dismantled the bulkhead side panels in the frunk, but it wasn't under there. The cables disappear into the bottom of the dash so I cannot easily trace them. Much as I love the simple 'Meccano' nature of these cars' construction, there must be a quicker way to find the valve!

Many thanks

I might have found it! I thought that the restoration photos might help.

Is this it? Behind the gearknob, sticking out of the central console? Below where my elbow would rest on the centre console?
If so, can it be accessed through the ashtray opening?

The heater control valve was behind and below the ashtray on the centre console. The valve turns freely, so I need to find a source of more of the internal wire from the inside of the cable that connects the heater lever to the heater valve. Does anyone know a source of this quite rigid wire?

From what I remember it was solid, about 2.5mm2 steel wire, not much special about it.

Loads of cars from the sixties and 70s use the same stuff. Yours probably came from a Citroen

Love the pics. Brings back memories of mine scattered about the garage floor. And the inboard discs made it easy to wheel about! Lol
