As mentioned a few weeks ago I walked into a 2 door 147 that was cheap but needed attention. The attention was a knackered engine but I knew where there was a replacement so decided to take a punt as at the price I would make money just breaking it.

Got the car to my mate who dabbles with mechanics in his spare time and the cause of running on 3 cylinders was quite apparent

Still not sure of the cause of this damage so we pulled the head off and all become clear

So head stripped and machined, a couple of new valves, 2.0 cams and water pump and timing kit already to put back together

So fingers crossed no need for replacement engine just some head work, hopefully all finished by next week

Mrs Z now works in the local garage as an admin assistant ordering parts, raising invoices etc. She ordered some bits for the 147 from their local parts supplier, head gasket set, filters, oil, coolant etc and they gave here the same discount they give her garage, she saved more in 5 mins than she earns in 3 hours :)

Injector in that cylinder had to be replaced as it was damaged, as was the coil pack, plugs and wiring. All injectors checked and all seems OK

That’s good, you’ll never know for sure then but likely the injector that caused the burnt valve.

Nice to see your saving what is now a rare car probably more Fulvias around than the 147.

So yesterday was put it back together day and all went well and delighted to find out the engine is a little gem, running sweetly and smoothly.A couple of other jobs found, gear linkage is a bit stiff and NS window has come off its runners but overall another saved for a bit longer.

Bl**dy Irish, just realised that regardless of when you have an NCT done it runs from when the last one ran out, so in this case the old NCT ran out in April 22 so the new one only runs to April 23. I only got the car in September so that's 5 months NCT where I didn't even own it - bunch of grabbing barstewards

It's only a 1.6 even with 2.0 cams it won't set the world on fire but front end turn in is pretty good so will leave it as is for now

I think the one I bought was only 120 quid so probably 200 quid now, but well worth the money.
Put one on my 156 and GT because of it.
