Ladies and gentleman, I’m a stickler when it comes to High mileage cars but I’ve found a levante, the 430BHP levante with a very basic option ticklist.
The chap wants £31750 for it and has 100k miles on it backed by a full JCT6 service history. Should I buy it or am I throwing away £32k?? Need some help peeps, it looks and drives like brand new! Any help please

Buying it is the easy bit but moving it on with that mileage may not be, especially if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. This would probably be a safer bet if there is such a thing:

saw this one too, it’s on autotrader the cheapest one with the wrap, he’s throwing in a full Vulcano interior which is virtually brand new, it’s got the full GTS bumpers and a little carbon fibre diffuser. It lacks paddles, soft close doors, ventilated seats but has everything else…

I’m all for 100,000 mile cars :thumb3:
Although I've run dailies to well over 200k (Peugeot/Volvo/Scimitar/VW) I don't think I'd put money into a high mileage performance car unless it was very special or very rare, especially when there are viable alternatives. Each to their own though, as it would be a boring old world if we all liked the same thing.

Totally agree to this

It's the highest depreciating SUV out there, 100k miles just adds to that. The fact is that a few k more and you can get a car with better spec and miles you can add to before you are advertising it for silly money due to 100k+.

Deprecitation on the Levante isn’t actually so bad. A similar age and mileage Rangie costs the same, but was more expensive originally (so worse depreciation). What helps the Maserati, compared to the Rangie, is it’s relative rarity.

But I’d not buy a very high mileage one as it’ll be hard to sell, and in all likelihood, about to throw up some expensive bills as parts wear out. We all know about Maserati parts pricing...!

Surely it also depends on the miles - cruising down empty motorways to south Spain is okay but around Blighty's busy roads a different story

Agree with much of what has been said. For a few k more to have a lot less miles is the way Id go. What you save now you will lose later

Also a FSH from JCT isnt necessarily a good thing, speaking from personal experience!

Looking at others on Autotrader the one you are looking at feels like too much money when you can get a car with less miles for 1 or 2K more. Feels
Like it should start with a 2 not a 3 for me.

Out of curiosity did you have a chance to sum total cost in maintenance to do 100k miles?

While mechanical maintenance is one thing and may indeed be up to date, cosmetic wear and tear should be also considered and I would expect it to be much more than a car with 1/3 of the miles.

What is the depreciation differential against a similar model with 1/3 of the miles?

You're asking if we think you should buy a basic spec, high-mileage, wrapped Levante with changed body panels from a guy called Salim in Huddersfield for £2k less than a car which has done a third or more less miles and comes from a dealer......?

Let me think about it and get back to you!

Great questions, the chap I’m purchasing from has kept it in pristine condition and it seriously has some road presence. I mean a 2013 RR with a lumma kit is fetching £26k with over a 100k and the Levante looks much more appealing. I know I’m probably paying £4k too much for it but my budget is £32k and the notes off that V6 just keep calling me! I know I must be mad buying it.

he is throwing in the following and please someone tell me if it still ain’t worth it:

spare brand new rear door
Full Vulcano leather interior including door cards and centre console from a 2020 levante
4x winter tyres 7mm thread on them
Extra film for the wrap just in case

so you know the car, and the guy? He spent £4k on the wrap and those are original GTS bumpers which cost him in the region of about £2k from what he’s said! And the interior and bits as above… still not a goer??

I’m just summarising the question with some context. It might be a fantastic car and the seller might be a wonderful guy. If it was my money I wouldn’t be finding out if either were true.

I am not to sure about Ewan. If you look at petrol Range Rovers on AT the cheapest 2017 car is 40k with 61k on the clock. There is one with 104k on the clock which is 2017 V8 and even that is up for 44k so the Levante certainly seems to have dropped quicker than a Range Rover from what is on Autotrader. The cheapest Range Rover Sport starts at 32k for a 2017 but again have less miles than the Levante.

Quite possibly. When I looked I didn’t look at fuel type, so could have been looking at diesels. Though bare in mind many of the Rangies started at over £100k, while most Levantes were noticeably less. So the Rangie has further to fall, and indeed, perhaps unlike the Levante, will be at just a few grand at 20 years old (approx).

if you like it and prepared to keep it go for it , all people are advising that if you plan on getting rid of it after couple of years you may have some problems moving it on
