Hello, glad to be here. Added a 2003 Spyder Cambiocorsa convertible, 4.2L to the collection a couple of weeks back. A fun, odd, quirky, powerful little car, this will be a lot of fun. Mine is a bit rough, needs some missing body parts replaced, a new fuel pump, etc. But the engine and drive train, brakes, etc are fine, and it runs and drives really well! Pete.

Welcome Pete.
There'll be a few guys along shortly to extend a warm welcome. Once they've sobered up from Sunday lunch enough, to hit the keyboard keys in something approximating the right order.
Any photos? The image I have in what passes for my mind is something like this.

When you mention missing body parts.
Hope you dodged the thunderstorms that plagued the southern states recently.
Anyhoodles. Don't be shy. Weigh in on anything you like, as you like.
Mike :)

As you can see, I am missing the side covers under the hood, and also missing the small exterior cover on the RH side that is out at the end of the top. I will post a pic of that. I also am missing the small chrome strip along the back above the license plate, and the gray interior coin tray cover has a broken logo. I will post a pic of that as well. The car overall runs great, but there are many things to repair. Purchase price reflected this, and it was all disclosed and noted before purchase. The inside LH door bangs terribly when closed, the window is apparently off the track, and/or the track appears to be broken or loose. Will attack that soon enough. New RH fuel pump is going in Tuesday, housing has the classic crack, and leaks. That was an amazingly expensive part, from our Dealer in Norwood. The Headlights point all caddywompus, and I have already fixed a bunch of other stuff, like the rear third brake light, etc. I try to do as much work as possible myself on all my cars, but this one is tough. This is the last addition, the collection is complete and the barn is now full: '80 Fiat Spider highly modified, '95 Jaguar XJS, '03 Jaguar XK8, '03 Jaguar XKR, and this '03 Spyder. Glad to be here, I will ask a lot of questions, as the owners manual sends you to the dealer for most anything beyond adding air to the tires, hahahah!

First question: Do most of you keep those engine bay covers? Or just take them out and set them aside in a safe place for storage? I am very tempted to just remove them for now, and be able to get at and see everything under there.

Welcome indeed. Engine covers, I think most folks keep them, it frames the engine nicely.

They aren’t especially expensive, you might save some money using suppliers like Scuderia Car Parts or Eurospares.

The right hand cover is also cheap:

Sounds like you have a bit to work on, which is part of the fun!

That is fantastic! Thank you. I was thinking that I would need a second mortgage. The RH Fuel Pump was US $675 with tax. Holy Moly....
Checked, and unfortunately the Grills are Unavailable at Scuderia. Darn. Will try Eurospares. (Special order there too. These things are like hen's teeth. No where to be found). LOL Oh well, will keep looking.

I removed them on mine as personally I think it looks much nicer and so much easier for visual inspections too.
Put a set I had unknowingly brought over from NZ to France sold them here surprised how many people wanted them and what they were prepared to pay too.
Win Win in my book.

Problem has been availability; the parts are listed, great exploded parts view drawings, all the info, but I get to shipping, they are special order. Hahahah! I did go ahead and order the grills from Eurospares, on backorder. Might as well start eating up the lead time. Price was fine. Thanks for the lead! Ordered floor mats from GGBailey, they seem pretty good, will report when they arrive.

I agree, and think I will remove them, primarily because I am new to the car, and there is zero advantage to me to not be able to see everything possible that is happening under the hood. Plus I can't find the missing side grills anyway.. So I think I will take it all off and store it carefully until I learn the innards and can source the grills. It is highly unlikely that they were put there for airflow control, more likely just for appearance.
