Happy to report it simply required adjustment nothing seized at all. Panic over and princely sum of £60 spent. I bought the handbrake shoes just in case but haven't needed them so if anyone wants them happy to pass them on for nothing (as long as postage is covered or collection (York))...

Very happy to report a new ballast has sorted the issue. Now just need to: Figure out where the water is getting into the cluster and seal it up. Revisit the top bracket of the cluster (which was missing on my broken one hence the 2x1 wedging the cluster into place). Thanks for all the help...

Tbh the carcass of the headlight is in far better nick than the one I took out of mine although there must be a crack of some sort that allows water ingress to the ballast (hopefully sealable). So the optimist in me believes he thought it worked that said he has been largely unhelpful so far...

Lesson learned on buying second hand parts... I dried out the ballast from mine and now get movement in the headlight adjustment motors (with nasty grinding noises) but bulb is still dead. Now hoping a new ballast will sort it otherwise new headlight it is! Sprout

Ha ha - do you have form? Makes sense re measuring it - theres a fair number of pins on the connector (not sure where I would look downstream) so would definitely need some guidance - electronics are not my forte! Tempted to put it back together and take it to GC Motors as they have an sd3...
