Could this be transmission? I get a howling noise about 3000 rpm, and a deeper guttural hum on full acceleration. No problem apart from the noise, the performance is fine, no feelings through the steering wheel or pedal, just a loudish noise... any thoughts?

NO/ASR staying on, but not a problem, seems to work?! ABS warning lights come on sometimes, and the RCY light. exactly at that moment, if in top, the car changes down to 2nd... then remains in 2nd, never changing up or down... so like it's stuck in gear... then sometime down the road, it goes...
