The drive up to Passo di Giau is an amazing experience - especially in winter, when for the last couple of miles to the top of the pass, the road zig-zags across a vast snow field. Often the snow will several feet above road level and you're left peering at the mountain views through the tops...

I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the drive along the Val di Solda to Sulden and the Ortler. Seeing your video brought back some fond memories and just a tinge of regret - when we did the journey it was in a rather nasty hire car, sadly lacking the style of a 4200.

Sadly, Scaf's experience in June (above) is not unusual. I've had similar soggy and disappointing days in early summer - last time I drove Passo Pordi in June the whole day was torrential rain with murky low cloud at the top.

Re. closed passes: I frequently drive around the Dolomites and Austrian Alps in winter ski season and almost all passes and through routes are kept open/cleared promptly, even after substantial snowfalls. Driving basic rental cars, on dozens of trips, I have only ever needed snow chains once...

Re. Ceikas, I was a passenger during a short but spirited drive in a 4200 with recently fitted Ceikas all round. From the passenger seat the ride and handling felt very good. The driver also said his early impressions were favourable.

While looking at the News page of Classic and Sportscar, I came across an item from 2nd August: "Get exclusive access to Autocar's new archive". It seems to be free and will apparently be available and searchable until 31st August. Hope it's of interest.

Great videos. There's something special about driving mountain passes.
