    4.7 engine

well worth it if you want to keep both a long time. I even change the gearbox oil and clean the filter every year on my GS, despite small annual mileages. I’d rather change the oil and filters rather than a gearbox or engine

    4.7 engine

Interesting thread, as Mario said an annual oil change and letting the car warm up before using full power is the key. That engine must have made some very strange noises before it failed completely.

Brake Caliper Overhaul (GS / 4200)

Yes absolutely, these have definitely not been driven through the annual salt bath for the last 17 years.

Brake Caliper Overhaul (GS / 4200)

You've done it all as well then, I replaced the rigid pipes and hoses for braided myself a few years ago due to corrosion and general age, found the original calipers not too bad then but thought with a bargain set it would be worth doing a bit of an overhaul and the main reason to make them...

Brake Caliper Overhaul (GS / 4200)

Thanks for the pointer, yes I did removed these guides on the spare set, The T27 bolts weren't seized solid so the plates came off quite easily and zero corrosion underneath, tried the same on the set on my GS but gave up as didn't want to round the bolt heads off!

Looks nice, shame you’re not sticking with it but can understand. Good luck with the sale.

Brake Caliper Overhaul (GS / 4200)

Picked up a set of used 4200 calipers in the US for a bargain price of £120. My plan is to refurbish them and colour change to red. After 15 years probably due some love. I got a quote to overhaul my existing ones but was put off by the nearly £900 cost. Since the spare set are from a dry state...

    GranSport (Fuji White) Running report

Interesting points regarding the matrix date and alfa symbol, wonder what the history was?? I installed the Saab 9000 one without issue, one pipe on the matrix was slightly shorter but there was enough length in the hoses, you also mention the matrix pipe diameter smaller, again I had no issue...

    Gransport rear tie rod replacement

they are such a pain, I could undo the locking nuts easily enough but the socket / bolt needed a lot of heat and soaking for days to get shifted with a breaker bar. I had the wishbone removed to free it up. I think the dissimilar metals and corrosion are the cause.

    F1 pump issue - 4200 CC

I had the same issue and replaced the complete pump with motor at home nearly 4 years ago using this guide. using the Alfa part it is £200 not £2600! See below: https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/f1-pump-removal-and-fitting-instructions-with-pics.1060/

    GranSport (Fuji White) Running report

That is a pain, did the matrix last year on mine, it’s not really that bad a job once you get into it, there’s a very good guide on here. Still that is not the point mind.

    Ticking noise under load

valve cover gaskets aren’t too bad, just time consuming. Know what you about expensive sounding noises - argh

    Rear tie rod removal...

Yes there is no need to buy an equivalent / expensive version when it is only the bearing to replace. I figured if the old ones lasted 65k miles and 13 years then they can't be that bad! See pics

    Rear tie rod removal...

yes these are open, but you need to reuse the rubber covers from the old bearing on the tie rod, don’t think there is a source for replacements if torn or lost

    Ticking noise under load

I had a ticking noise at 1200-1500 rpm only when hot, noticeable when reflected from parked cars / building, maybe similar to yourself? I did the following: New variator solenoids - no change Changed oil to 10w60 - no change Replaced valve lifters on that bank - noise gone. Was expensive...
