    Idle dropping

Yep bypass valve performs the same function as a dump valve. It’s just internal. Which is how most OEM set ups are if you use a dump valve which bleeds to atmosphere you get the Max Power woosh noise when you lift off

    Idle dropping

Dump valve (blow off or bypass) is in the compressor side of a turbo. It releases pressure in the inlet tract when you lift off so you dont get pressure spikes in the inlet when the turbo is spinning quickly but the throttle is closed (technically a dump valve releases pressure to atmosphere...

    Idle dropping

I’m not sure that’s correct. If the wastegate was faulty you wouldn’t get an increase in flow through the MAF on your overrun. If one of the dump valves is faulty the pressure on overrun has nowhere to go as the throttle is closed so it goes the wrong way through the MAF. By disconnecting the...

    Idle dropping

Looks it, which I reckon leads you back to the dump valve being the cause of the weird MAF readings on overrun.

    Idle dropping

What’s the sensor that’s in pale line on the diagrams? I can’t find it in any other diagrams. I wonder what happens to the MAF reading if you put a vaccum onto the wastegate at idle ??

What else does that vacuum line do apart from exhaust valves and waste gates?

Illegal to wash car at home in Germany?

Depends on where you are, some systems are combined some separate. You’re right, if you get a storm surge it can overcome capacity at treatment stations, the law takes this into account and allows limited discharge of untreated waste water into water courses. These should be monitored, reported...

Illegal to wash car at home in Germany?

It’s all quite complex. Joered hit on one of the issues. A lot of sewage treatment involves the use of organisms which are great at sorting your poop out but don’t cope well with cleaning products. The grit that comes from storm water or cleaning your car also clogs up the filtration system in...

Illegal to wash car at home in Germany?

Storm water and foul water systems are generally separate, putting the water from your car washing in with the sewage actually causes issues at sewage treatment plants.

    A 911 FOR THE WINTER?

I think the 996 is better than the 997. I prefer the way they drive in C2 and C4 to the equivalent 997 and I like the interior.

Mercedes £174 per hour. Erm no

That’s what they have to spend a lot of the money on. The post sale updates that they have to do week in week out starting from the moment the model is released to the public and continuing for the car’s lifecycle.

Mercedes £174 per hour. Erm no

Modern tech is part of the problem. Mercedes have to spend €50million a week on software development and updates.

    Idle dropping

Looking at the pics the bypass valve seems to be a unit by itself. Maybe swap them over as you suggested. It also only has two pins, so there may not be any feedback from the unit as to its position. it should be easy to connect it to 12v and confirm it moves.

    Idle dropping

Bypass valve only opens on overrun so it could be stuck If you can connect a vacuum/pressure gauge between the turbo and the throttle body you can the measure vacuum when you lift off if you get an increase in pressure to above atmosphere that should give you an idea if the bypass valve isn’t...
