Proper nasty that. The other thing is I bet some have not got track insurance which will be an expensive track day if they haven’t.

This prompted me to look over the track day insurance that I got for Llandow in 2017 (for £188).

The policy explicitly said:

We will not make any payment for:
1. physical damage or physical destruction caused by:
...
v. reckless, dangerous or other deliberate driving tactics by the insured driver that were likely to result in damage

I think an insured driver would struggle to get a pay-out with that video as evidence.

Absolutely 100% and there is loads of evidence on social media and on YouTube.
Not even hard to find either.

I've watched many track days at Castle Combe, and a real kicker was when a guy in a Lotus 11 (I think it was a very nice replica) slid off at Quarry and kissed the tyre wall. He decided not to continue so hopped over the wall to wait for the end of the session. A few minutes later a Ford Focus left the track and took exactly the same path, landing on top of the Lotus with some force. The same day a Capri was written off at Quarry by its owner who blamed everyone but himself - even the snappers.

Track days are ok if you have a prepped car that you're happy to risk, but imho it's not worth it for your P&J even with track insurance.
I did llandow a few times in a alfa 155 rattle can black bought for £300, stripped out the seats. As i didnt want risk writing off my 3200ac

Best Fun I had was in the £300 BMW M3 3.0 E36 and the £600 Honda Civic EJ9 Vtech something can't believe I paid double the money over the BMW but it was Fun on Track.

I find the fun is pushing whatever your drivibg to the limit, a revvy engine helps and manual box to slam and abuse at redline

Done few track days but none with that many cars on track and although Combe looks pretty straight forward it is deceptive and that's ignoring Quarry which is down right dangerous for someone who does 't know it.

Hope everyone was OK after all cars can be replaced

CASTLE COMBE CIRCUIT STATEMENT – 05/09
Following on from our previous statement regarding the two individuals involved in the incident at Saturday’s Forge Action Day event (03/09), Wiltshire Police have this morning released the following statement to the Castle Combe Circuit office:

“We responded at around 12.45pm on Saturday (03/09) to an RTC involving a BMW on the Castle Combe racing circuit.

“The driver, a man in his 20s from Chepstow, Wales, suffered minor injuries.

“The passenger, a woman in her 20s from Blackwood, Wales, suffered serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.”

Our thoughts remain with those involved. We ask you to please continue respecting the privacy of the individuals and their families at this time.

Castle Combe Circuit has, and always has had, rigid safety procedures in place before anyone carries out track time at the venue. This is the first time an incident of this kind has occurred during an Action Day event over the many years that they have been held.

We will be holding a thorough debrief meeting and review in due course, with further updates being made accordingly.

Circuit must have thought it life threatening to have a police response. Never known that before except on the Isle of Mann but they are public roads.

Serious injuries during proper race meetings have illicited a police investigation in recent years.

What a mess of a track day, though. Absolutely no discipline by the drivers, and, as others have noted, far too many cars on track. Worse than that, far too many cars at different speeds.

Had there been a Group A/B/C division of drivers by experience and lap times, there would be far fewer opportunities for car in car accidents.

I, of course, crashed when overtaking a fixed concrete barrier, . Not the preferred way to be introduced to the lesson of power induced oversteer.

Of note, my 4200 was replaced by a BMW M240i with X Drive, and it’s an absolute joy on the track, nearly identical to the one crashed.

Agree Andy, driven the track a few times and it is a very fast a technical track plus some of those run offs are not great so you have to have your whitts about you. That rise in the track before quarry has caught out many as depending on your car if you break after the rise you can go straight off. It you break on the rise your car can go light and you will miss the corner. They tell you in the brief to break before it but because it looks like you don’t have to break lots don’t and pay the price. My Lotus Exige was perfect though as you could break after and still make the bend.

wow - that track looked way to busy for any fast driving. I would have been in the pits until all the newer cars had cooked their brakes. Only ever take my MX5 on track now. Had several excursions onto grass at Bedford in 3200 and a 911 and the MX. Only other proper circuit was Brands on a filthy wet, foggy day which was marginal. Dipped some rubber onto gras and slammed into pit wall on drivers side. Car still painting right way, no others involved and drove home too. Massive lesson but will still go back on track.

After session with instructors. at Bedford,
Race driver / instructor "how hard do you want to push"
Me " all the way to limit "
Race driver / instructor " do you need to drive this car tomorrow"
me "Nope - disposable asset"
Race driver / instructor " okay , let's go . warm up lap first, then build pace using all the revs. We brake later each lap until you approach limits".
