3200GT Suspension Control Unit

My 3200 has had the suspension error light on for a while, I finally got to a garage that has the correct diagnostic system to diagnose the fault. The issue is with the Control Unit, the shocks and actuators are all working fine.

Is there anyone that will repair the Control Unit instead of me getting a replacement?, I'm assuming its made by Bilstein ?? do they repair or test (at least) to confirm its faulty.

Advice appreciated :)

Yes it Bilstein. Same system in 959, Corvette and Ferrari. Can’t help with repair advice though. Bilstein do have a UK office so you could try asking.

I think with this "right to repair" movement they'd get some positive publicity maybe :D

I took mine apart and discovered the brass block had become unstuck. Application of araldite and it’s been fine for last 10 years. It could well be something in electronics that may require more involved work but an easy item to check and easy fix. Have you had any issues with fuse 16 caused by the brass block shorting circuit?

Does it make much difference? Mine doesn't have adaptive suspension, I won't call it skyhook, did that come along later?

Unless you actually looked at the light in mine you wouldn’t really know which one you were in.

I would disagree, I can tell when the suspension is is sport more, its definitely a bit stiffer, harder ride. When it's not in sport mode below 70 mph (when its starts to stiffen the shocks up anyway) it is much softer and more comfortable. For me its the first car with a sport button that actually makes a difference. The engine, and gearbox are quite different too, between the modes.

I'll be taking out the unit and have a look, will get in touch with Bilstein and see what they say. Will report back :)

Ive had no issues with fuse 16, I'll have a look inside the control unit in the next few days and see what it looks like.

I could tell no difference before the Error light was on permanently ... so we will see when I finally clear this issue.

I think your dampers are too deteriorated with age and/or mileage. I couldn't feel the difference before, but it became apparent after the damper rebuild.

This could well be the case, although the car has a low mileage less than 36,000 but I need to fix the Error light issue first then I can get the dampers rebuilt if its needed.
