I bought a Ford Transit LWB Jumbo when I started my house renovation 6 years ago... thinking I’d keep it for 6 months. It’s still sitting on my drive looking hideous.. but I honestly don’t know what I would do without it now. We just got a second home in France and I’ll be using it again to transport the entire contents for a house down there, plus all the other bits you need.

transits, very useful indeed, i've had a T350 for over 15 years and it's never let me down, newer generation not so good on engine reliability

Yup, I’m running the trusty 2.4 as well.. 2011 model.
mines a year 2000 with 2.4 as well and rwd, believe it or not i've had 2 bulk bags of ballast in the back, whole pallets of bricks etc all fork loaded in the back and still pulls like tractor, would never trade it in for any of the modern stuff

Funny - I made two trips to Belgium to pick up pallets of bricks too! The vast majority of the interior of our house, including bathrooms and kitchens, 250 square meters of french oak flooring etc etc was hauled over in the Transit :)

Love my 2016 C43 estate for all this because I don't yet need the space of the E.

For your budget, it's a shame you don't like Fords as the Mondeo estate has some great options. My best friends have two... older ST220 and a 2016 disiesel with titanium trim. Really nice cars.

Problem now with estates is so few have level load. Newer Volvos aren't box shaped so don't fit in big things properly (I tested with my electric guitar case and I couldn't lay it flat across the boot!!!). Used to love my company 2009 Volvo estate, 4 adults up to Bordeaux and back, filled with 'souveneers' and roof nicely loaded with box and bike for 2 weeks. Friends in my village have been using scooby outbacks for years running on the bangernomics princible.

My funeral director friend has run Mondeo estates for ever, purely because of the flat long back and can get two clients side by side.
