Unfortunately big or small, anything cheap will be knocking on a bit now, and will have a high potential for problems, either rust, mechanical or electrical.
A cheap alternative, new, could be Russian however!

lowest price is £2500 and was hoping for something cheap
They are cheap , at that price when you're done with it you'll sell it for £2500

A cheap range rover isn't going to be cheap , if you like pain buy the yeti and get your partner to poke you in the eye every morning.

Second Range Rovers loved the ones I have had two P38's and a 2008 L322 with the Jaguar V8 which was bullet proof and drove the whole of New Zealand in it trouble free and drove the most dangerous road there just outside Queenstown on standard tyres :)

How old was the l322 and how much did it cost Phil
If you can find a good one that's had money spent on it I'd say yes but bottom of the plie would be a money pit

I bought this a month ago

Love it , 3.0 V6 , not so keen on the £108 fill up though :D

I’d go Panda 4x4 but it won’t tow well…..great 4wd car
For towing my family use Pajeros in Cyprus, (some are farmers) great reliability and have owned them for 30 or so years with no issues and they get worked hard everyday

Mine was a 2008 Vogue petrol ex Japan in New Zealand 60,000 miles and couldn't fault it back in 2018 £10,000 well spent back then it was like new.
But I wouldn't hesitate getting a good P38 and even find my self looking at Sports here in France.

Had this for 5 years now. All in all it's been a great vehicle to own; you don't realise how much you need a truck until you have a truck!
I appreciate it's not really a "small 4x4" but otherwise it ticks all the boxes being modernish, but also quirky and capable.

thanks all - bagged 1998 Jeep Cherokee with the clonky donk.
After a wash it's not too hard to look at. Pressed into early rescue service towing 4 wheeled horse box. Surprised myself how much I enjoy driving slowly. Have not started checked shirt / big boots shopping yet but always like a bit of Johnny Cash on the wireless.
