Not sure that's true Ewan, I was thinking about bringing over a car from Italy, at the moment you have to pay 20% Vat on cars up to 30 years old and 5% on any cars older

So for a 10k car you now have to pay an extra £3,500 Vat plus extra transport costs!

Dave

How does 20% VAT make £10 grand turn into £13.5 grand?

Simple one to add but NLA from Maserati - part # 208041 is shared with an Alfa 166.

82204

Outer mirror switch for GS & later 4200s with the cup holder mounting plate:

82203

Nb - early 4200s use a different shape switch. Part # 3833300136.

Any VAT payable on an import is not just on the price of the goods. Vat is payable on the CIF price. Cost of goods plus shipping and insurance costs plus duty and then VAT is charged on the total of those costs.

I was looking on Autodoc last night and came accross this.

I have not fitted this myself so proceed at your own risk. If someone has fitted this please could you confirm that it works because it is a big saving over the part procured by the factory and sold on at a huge mark up

AC Compressor replacement by "Meat and Doria" £315.20 Inc VAT & Delivery

View attachment 76750

Eurospares

2004 onwards: PN 263172 - Delphi version
£795+VAT+Delivery

2002-2003 PN 183309 - Sanden version
£1395+VAT+Delivery

Belated thanks for this, I may well give it a go for my 2002 Spyder. Anyone tried this part?

If you decide to get it let us know how you get on.

I would get the returns protection so Autodoc take the part back at their own cost if it is not the right fitment. Might be worth contacting them directly to double check if the part is compatible

Good advice, thanks. It’s with SB Race Engineering at the moment for a service including a look at the aircon. I’ll talk to them next week and if we give it a try I’ll report back.

Morning Gents, hope next year is better!

3200 centre dash vents update - Pontiac Solstice no longer available.

I have sourced similar in the UK for which I am awaiting delivery - they look hopeful.
Will revert when checked (they are very cheap!). As an aside these are available as Lambo parts - £145 ea.

Grizzly

How did you get on with the 3200 centre dash vent?

What a brilliant spot!
Hi Zep,

Taking advantage of your knowledge and expertise again...
Is there an option put their from Aplha or fiat to replace the 4200 vents? I noticed on my frisbee alpha his look similar to mine. Got the dreaded sticky leather finish.

Good news and bad news. Good news is SBR couldn’t find a leak in the aircon compressor so recommended not changing it. Bad news is that I didn’t get a chance to try out the Meat & Doria version.

I did do a bit of research and saw a reference to these being rebuilt units (with warranty) so I’d have every expectation they would fit. Also I downloaded the Autodoc app and got an introductory discount that would have dropped the price below £300. I was almost tempted to get one anyway...

FWIW SBR were great to deal with, did a great job with the major service and I’ll definitely use them again.

I’ve not replaced these myself, but people seem to be saying that the vents from the Fiat Barchetta are a match. Depending on your issue (sticky plastic or flaking “chrome”) you might be able to refurb for less than replacing through the likes of Roland at StickyPlastics.

Alfa 166 ones are the same part but i think the middle two are slightly larger than the outside ones on the maserati dash.

While the 166 vents fit they are a slightly different design with the vents being more rounded and having an indent on one of them. The Fiat Barchetta ones are a closer match, although they do not come with chrome rings I believe.

That being said there is an alloy/chrome rings set being sold for the Barchetta that might work on the 4200.

An option for anyone looking for control arm rebuilds without the need to replace the entire item. A lower cost option!

This is for the 3200/4200 but they also do the GT.

I've recently viewed Jayemm on Youtube who is currently having work done, on his Lamborghini at AV. He has had his control arms re-furb'ed by this company.

It says the same thing for the GTS. Having looked at the quality of their work, it’s worth a question to find out.

They do look better than new... and at a couple of grand for the refurbished set, about £10k saving, even if you can get them.
