Also if this was a company company then the BIK should increase but I suspect it won't. Just another little hidden anomaly there. Might need explore this anomaly or black whole further.

So for example my Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is zero emissions on paper, zero car tax, zero ULEZ and zero congestion charge. It has a 2.4 petrol 4 cylinder ICE that you could modify but pay none of the stuff you would pay it if were stock. Mmmmm......maybe add a turbo or supercharger to that 2.4 petrol ICE :D

LOL, thanks. A fair bit of interest and some bids already so always a good sign. Certainly now chassis/outrigger/engine or any immediate worries for a potential buyer day one which was the main attraction for me as well when I bought it. Unfortunately for me the colour was the lowest attraction but the new Rolex Blue replacement is much more suitable for my colour tastes.

Nice early bids on your auction...

Reading the earlier posts, you were hoping for a price around £20k - looks like you prob will get at least that! I am still amazed about how much value those cars offer tbh.

The other thing that makes no sense to me at the moment (in addition to why such fully restored cars
don’t sell for more in comparison to other brands) is the cost of restoration :

On one hand your red TVR was completely rebuilt from ground up inc engine rebuild etc... for £20k (according to what you wrote)

On the other hand, I have been looking at the cost to restore old Porsches (911T/E or 912) and reading many forums it looks like a half decent restoration would cost at least £50/60k... some even says that a proper body repair / respray could be at least £20k... how in **** can you justify £20k for metal work and respray? You get a brand new car for that price. Looks at prices of old Porsche parts, I don’t get why £20k could sort pretty much any non rusted car. Why would restoring a 40y/o Porsche with good parts availability cost 2/3x more than a TVR, MG etc...

Sorry for the thread slight hijack & Good luck w the sale :)

Thanks.

I agree that the costs can get crazy but I guess it all worked when prices were going up silly on those Porsche's. I think the biggest cost of all this is the labour and we know many many hours can be spent so I can see how the costs mount. The new Chimaera has had about £40k spent and that didn't have body off chassis resto as it didn't need it.

I feel I bought the right Chimaera as an original 500 is fairly rare and sought after. It is very well sorted so doesn't anything spent short to medium term and at anything around £20k represents pretty good VFM I would say compared to some other options. The red 500 has had a ton of work done and money spent. I just couldn't get over it being red.

I think this one could be worth anything from £15k-£20k but it is not my decision and that of a potential buyer so who knows.

A nice Chimaera 400 can be had at a bit less but to be honest it could be £10k-£15k and you could easily spend £5k+ on one if it needed chassis work so makes mine look very good VFM really. It has has rebuilt engine with upgrades and healthy RR tested output, rebuilt gearbox and diff, new loom, lines, upgrade new brakes and suspension, full interior retrim so a great starting point for a long term keeper for someone.

Lovely car, and a model that simply is not seen on this side of the pond, even less so on the west coast of the US.
Mrs. submariner looked over my shoulder approvingly and asked if this was her new ride, as she approved.

Once it hits 25 years old, can it not be exported to the US? JDM car prices (R33 GTR, FD RX-7 etc) are going through the roof because they can now be exported to the US.

Exactly, the labour costs are huge for any decent restoration. Porsche parts are quite easy to find, and cheaper than many Italian bits and pieces, but the cost to do a decent repair on the bodywork is eye-watering

Can this be done even if it's RHD?

My understanding is that - similar to Australia (which is also a 'Federated model') - there is a difference between the National and State legislation.

So you can certainly import RHD cars into the USA (they are flooding themselves with Supras at the minute, and other JDM) - however your ability to register and drive RHD cars is contingent upon the specific state. Each (as is the want of respective power-hungry states squabbling amongst themselves in a federal model) determines its own emissions, safety and other registration aspects. Each just wants to be different.

But - in brief - you can certainly export / import a RHD car such as a TVR to the states. So it is feasible.

But it is unlikely to be viable. Have a look at how few have gone through BAT auctions - TVR For Sale - BaT Auctions (bringatrailer.com) - very few. So I think the USA is an unlikely destination.

I see this auction is over; unsold?

Is it still available privately?
Just saw your PM and relied to that.

Yes, still available for the moment but do have a guy coming back to me tomorrow to confirm if he wants it. If not I will list it for sale for £16k no offers on FB, AT and or eBay.

I've had three people contact me about the car wanting to buy it but none have been able to complete on a purchase yet. I have two waiting to sell their existing cars so will be a few weeks off being in a position to take it. However I would really like a garage space back so have listed on Facebook for a quick sale @ £16k. If anyone is interested in a quick winter bargain @ £16k just let me know ;)

Weird. It says it has breached their policies on tickets! I'm not selling tickets....I'm selling a car

Just requested it to be reviewed and approved. They must automate this I guess.
