Un valved Larini back boxes on the Gransport

After spending the past few months upgrading/ replacing every single part of my stereo, I fear that I may have completely wasted my time and money.
Reason being, I picked up a set of Larini back boxes, un valved. I fitted them this weekend. What a noise :)

My god is the car now loud!! Pops, crackles, rasps. Completely transformed the sound of the car. It sounds awesome! but I'm worried it might be a little too much!!

My question is, does anyone know how much the x pipe is contributing to the additional noise? I ran the car with just the Benny x pipe for a couple of months which made a modest difference with the standard GS back boxes in place.
If I re fit the standard resonator in place of the X pipe, anyone got any experience of how much this will tame the Larini back boxes?

Rest of the system is factory standard with all cats in place. God knows what it would sound like with a de cat and full system!

I don't want to kill this new sound as it is absolutely superb!, just wondering if my standard resonator will bring it down a notch or two without removing all those pops, rasps and crackles?

I suspect 1 + 1 equals 3. So neither individually get you where you want to be but both together are more than the sum of their parts.

I have valved Larini's now on my 4200 with decat secondary sections and standard silenced xpipe. It is really nice and quieter now as it was too loud with straight through rears in place of the Larini's.

However if anything it could be a smidge quiet now so might get an unsilenced Xpipe. My thinking is it will add that but extra noise but with the valves allow me to tune it a smidge quieter or noisier as required. Almost perfect now and hopefully that last change will make it is I always wanted.

I have the full Larini system including stainless joining pipes to the rear boxes, with remote control on the rear boxes so I can be loud on the soft suspension setting or quiet on the hard setting.
I put the factory centre x pipe resonator back in last year to tame the sound, as the full system was really over the top. I loved it but it was a bit anti-social.
So to answer your question yes the X pipe is a big contributor to noise.

I've the unvalved larini rear boxes, with standard cats and silenced X pipe.
More than noisey for me, all the grumbles are present.

Great, thanks all. Going to give the standard resonator a go. Can always swap back if it gets too quiet.

Ha! I know. Been having a word with myself about this already. It really is loud though, and I have had a few noisy cars/ bikes in the past. This much (awesome) noise somehow seems a bit too much for the character of the car if that makes sense? Think Adele, but with Brian Blesseds voice coming out of her at full welly?!? Bit of a shock....

.....Lockdown is clearly taking its toll on my mental wellbeing. Couple of sessions of Sportsmaserati therapy should see me back on track :)

Surely this is one for the mods. Going quiet unless converting to original to sell, is surely a mandatory 1 week ban?
;)
Never mind the second offence, what about the wasted effort on internal "fake noise" for the stereo? yellow card offence perhaps :0

Even I have put Larinis on the back of my GS in place of my straight through tips. I will be ripping out the cats though so don t worry. The French will still hate me.

Yes, unless the perp agrees to a week-long re-hab course of red meat, black coffee and straight whisky. That generally helps stop people acting like big-girls' blouses.

Sort of.

IF scrutineer
THEN whisper
ELSE loud
Exactly, we have noise limits at race tracks because urban sprawl has grown to surround the courses that were once way out of town.
I'm reminded of one guy in Sydney with his GS Trofeo, who the race stewards at Eastern Creek wanted to ban.
He pointed out all the race approval stickers on the roll cage from Spa, Monza, etc and told them they were gutless and out of step with international racing. He won the argument.
Re the remote control, I have the possibility of being independent in my selection, but as a true blue SportsMaserati Forum member I leave it on loud always.
I have not been to a track since fitting the Larini system, so at least I have options.

As I see it you have 3 options.
  1. Do what you want as it is your car and we are just jesting
  2. Switch the hearing aid off
  3. Sell it, buy a double glazed QP and make it loud.

I really need to give the car a bit more of a run to make my mind up.
Thanks to all with experience on this topic. Seems like its a path that has been followed by quite a few already. Thanks also to SPkennyUK for your PM on the modified H pipe....sounds like this might offer a very good compromise. Will drop you a note shortly.
