QPV GTS at auction

BTW - yet another GTS popped up for sale on AT. Yes, it looks nice for quite a bit less money, but does it look well loved and looked after like yours? Heck no, the pictures and description are (for me) a bit lacklustre and show minimal effort which doesn’t inspire confidence - and it’s a Cat D which for me in a car like this is a turn off, although others may have differing opinions.

Buy the best you can afford - skimping on up front cost is usually a false economy, particularly when it comes to these.

Morning Dom and welcome.

You've clearly bought a cracking car there, that is not subjective or in doubt. What is subjective is the price. You clearly feel it is worth to you what you have paid so sleep well and enjoy the beautiful car that it is.

Would I have paid that much? No, but that is purely as I think the price these often go for is a little more than I can justify conpared to other equivalent metal that is on the market. I bought a 2010 XJL SuperSport 3 years ago for £16.5k for that very reason.

A few k here and there over a long ownership is no problem IMHO and is fine. Life is short. Enjoy it and forget about whether you could have paid a smidge less or not. The market decides the price and you had to pay what you had to pay to buy the car so you haven't overpaid. It is what it is.

Enjoy it and then enjoy it some more. Well done

Hi everyone,

I had a sleepless night after reading these messages.
I am to be the new owner having been the highest bidder during the auction and raising my bid slightly after.

I am now worried I have massively overpaid. What would you think was a better price? 27k?

I plan on keeping the car a very long time so it’s not really a big issue, to me it just looked like a really nice spec and well looked after. Conearo also said in one of his posts it wanted for nothing having been serviced and had brakes all round as well as underbody rust treatment. The tyres were recently fitted as well.

I am keen to see what you think as yes, I know I could have paid slightly more and got one from a dealer.
The white was a non starter after how long it has been standing around for and Richard did message me about his black one, and a month ago to mee it was too much money, but maybe it just didn’t pull at my heart in that spec.

One confused and anxious Dom
For keeping the car a long time I would not worry. What you are getting for the money is amazing and fully sorted so it will still give good value. Sure cheaper always helps but there is not a lot of stock out there to choose from. Just get rid of the naff number plate.

Morning Dom - you should be having sleepless nights through excitement in anticipation of picking it up. Looks lovely. We’ve had ours 3 years now and it’s still awesome. Gives me an excuse to post my favourite picture of ours on the France/Spain border. Make sure your first trip includes a tunnel or two.76010

you paid what you were prepared to...don't let the chat here put you off. If you intend to keep for a while you will realise that the prep and care the car had prior to sale will more than cover any perceived over payment.

Agree - it was a fair price and my perspective was why the owner might not accept it.. with these cars - the market always decides as there are so few GT S versions -especially as some them have, ahem, interesting colours and interiors etc. It looks a well sorted car and given the recent £4k spend many future bills have been sorted.

Look at the Richard Grace Car (Black GTS, 41k miles for £32k) which comes with a 6 month warranty and that should reassure you...

Now stop worrying and start driving! Mine is 10 years old, had it 3 years and we do a European grand tour in it every year.........awesome car

Welcome.
I wouldn’t worry at all. It looks a really great car. I’m sure you have paid less than current dealer retail for it, so unless something goes bang in the next 6 months, a typical warranty period, then you are up financially.
The fact this car has clearly been looked after, just serviced, checked over etc then you’ll be very unlucky to have an issue.

I bought mine in a private sale, from a forum member, about 18 months ago. It’s been no problem, only costs being servicing.

Many people believe private sale price should be close to trade price, but on something like a QP the difference between trade and retail is high, understandable for the trader, as rectifying lots of things can be high. However, in my opinion, as the GT S is so rare you are never going to be able to buy a sorted one near trade as a private buyer. So all you can do is make sure the car is good and beat retail price.
Plus, if you want/like a particular colour or spec, and one comes up for sale, private or trade, you can’t exactly wait for another to come along, it may not exist and you’ll never get one at all. Therefore, I’d be a very happy man if I were you.

I think you have a stunning car there. I’m still living in 2018 price wise and that’s the only reason I didn’t bid on it. As the others have said if it’s a keeper then it’s never expensive in my opinion.

Had you got it for early 20’s then spent £4K you would be at similar money. At least it’s had a expert look over the car prior to sale.

Congratulations Dom, and welcome.
There will always be opinions , up to you if you take them on board. The facts are that any QPV is a great car with epic engine. The Sport GT S is regarded amongst fans (this forum) as the technical sweet spot. The price you are willing to pay is just that , the price on the day.
What else can be bought today to compete? (if there is anything, chances are someone here has got one or had one. Some come back top the Trident, others wish they had and fewer still are glad to leave. Some of tases still return to this forum to report how good life is in another car).

So I pick the car up tomorrow.. can’t wait!
What are the things I need to check it has other than 2 keys and the service history etc.
From memory the 3200 had a red master key that you had to have... is there anything like that for the Quattroporte?

Usual bits and bobs like the owners manual, service handbook, tool kit in the boot.

When I bought mine, the fuel filler cap release was dicky - I later had it fixed, but make sure it's been explained to you the procedure for the manual over-ride (pulling a red cord via the inside of the boot) in case the release button in the cabin doesn't actuate/release the cap.
