I picked up the car this morning.
It is fabulous. Better than I remembered. And I think a month without it has somehow done me and my relationship with the car good.
Tanked up and did the hill climb to Newlands corner in both directions this afternoon. Huge landscape flashing by. Up and down the gears. Tight round the corners. A bit of throttle. A power squat well controlled by the suspension geometry. 48/52 weight distribution and double wishbones front and rear all working in concert to shrink the car going into the corners to the size of a two seater and I have the biggest of smiles.
Actually, I had that smile at the bodyshop today as soon as I opened the driver's door, smelled the leather, saw the Broadwood piano finish of the dashboard and matching steering wheel and gear lever.
The car is insanely beautiful and an complete delight to drive.
Burbling along in 6th gear, 1,000 rpm and 30mph. Howling down the straight in 2nd gear at 60mph. This car does everything and seems perfectly happy doing it. I think there's plenty of enjoyment waiting for me here.
I am so pleased to have it back !

Probably the best offside rear quarter of any Maserati in Surrey. Its all entirely new !
Interestingly, because there are no sharp angles in the pininfarina body, the nearest paint point to the rear quarter is the weld at the bottom of the A pillar. So they resprayed not only the straightened - out rear quarter but also all of the C pillar, above the rear door, above the front door and down the A pillar. And because they replaced and resprayed the rear bumper, they had to do the same to the nearside: C pillar, over both doors and down the A Pillar. Half the car has been resprayed ! Shiny new Maserati badge on the boot lid too and a couple more, one on each repainted C pillar.
I'm astonished.
And pleased, so far, with the result.
But I must say I cannot recommend the experience. Try to avoid getting your Maserati shunted by a BT van or similar.
