Hitting the rev limiter in an MC Shift manual mode

I'm now very sure it's the alternator that is knackered: the battery light stays on almost continuously if not flashing, there's a slight whine coming from the engine bay and the electrics are slowing down as if there's not enough power as the battery gets more and more depleted.

I'm gonna take the alternator out and send it to London & Essex Auto which quite a few people recommend on here.

Looks like a pain in the **** to get to the bloody thing though. Any tips? I know you have to be careful with the intake plenum...

Why not get the battery load tested just to be sure. If it's gone punk and pulling too much, the alternator struggling....

Had exactly your symptons and ignored them. Car expired in central London. Was extremely fortunate to have just turned off the main arteries when the battery ran out of juice. Very disconcerting watching your car expire while still driving!

I believe others have advised against reconditioned alternators, but you may have better luck...

I was getting a System Voltage High code so that might have been the case, but I bought a new battery and it had no effect at all.

What was the fix in the end? Mine is slowly dying before my eyes, last night the windows were struggling to go up while the interior light flickered.

Well, attempted the alternator job today and didn't get very far...

7 of the 19(?) torx screws on the covers in the engine bay were corroded to s**t and trying to get them off proved fruitless. I had the same problem with the arch lining when trying to change a bulb. The fixings look cheap and flimsy, and make a simple job much harder than it needs to be ffs!

Stuff like that grips my sh*t.
They might not be the best design or materials, but they come off at least every 2 years at service time, so why doesn't anyone use grease anymore on re-assembly of parts?
Lazzyness and lack of care!
As you say, makes the simple jobs a right pain.

Yeah it's a real annoyance. Something which should take 5 mins to do has ended up taking up many hours with no positive resolution.

My Audi, for all its faults, has the same style fixings for the bumper trims, and they are solid thick screws which would take some serious abuse, whereas these Maserati screws felt like cheese and disintegrated within seconds despite being careful.

Will have another go tomorrow, although I'm thinking if the engine covers are this difficult to remove what state are the wiper connections in?! I'm following the write-up on ML: https://www.maseratilife.com/threads/diy-alternator-replacement-qp.62329/

Changed my own alternator and would not care to do it again :) Sent mine away for refurb and it is still working 18 months later.

Interesting same year as mine! Only took mine to 5k revs so cant comment but will be interesting to hear opinions! Did it sound gd?
Each to their own of course, but suggest you try out the entire spread of revs on offer. My own base model QPV 4.2 is a civilised but sporty saloonup to 5k. From there to the redline it just makes me laugh out loud and think I am a race driver. Somewhere around 5200rpm the magic happens and rate of climb increases. Every gear change take at redline starts again from this point. Like a race car. In my 5 metre long, double glazed, leather lined Limo. Ridiculous and pointlessly childish. No wonder many do not visit that zone of the tachometer.

The MC-shift is even more pronounced noise (engine + gear change)

Any tips? I'm half thinking I can't be bothered with it myself now especially because of the corroded screws, but I have no Maserati specialists near me and can't get very far with the battery being slowly depleted.
