Like needamaser, I live on the 500 route and can confirm I have never seen so many camper vans. as to a route, I would say if doing the north of Scotland do not just stick to the exact 500 circuit, particularly miss out the road to wick, it offers nothing special. altnaharra road a good choice as said, so is the loch maree road. Lastly suggest you do the south road around Loch Ness in preference to the tourist trap of the North road, much quieter and has some stunning views and ribbon like roads. Early October a coin toss for weather but to be honest, so is any month up here which has a vowel in it! Lol

No in the Granturismo... or maybe ZXR (coming soon!) ....
Better off on the Z....some of the roads on the route are very narrow. I had an interesting conversation with a guy in a motor home who told me I had to reverse up a hill so he could pass...I was all ready on the uphill slope when the buffoon decided to carry on down his side.. We did a see saw dance at the bottom with an inch to spare...

Try cycling up it with holiday rental camper vans coming the other way.

Really annoys me the ones who drive past a passing place and come straight at you like you’ve got somewhere to go. Had a set to with a prat and his family on the Bailey bridge just by Applecross House.

We’ve got friends a few miles up the coast from Applecross. There’s another road round from Shieldaig now but when they bought the house 40 odd years ago the Bealach na Ba was the only road. The MOD built the new road to get year round access to the submarine test building.

Great photo. The Applecross to Shieldaig road is deceptive. Have cycled it a couple of times and it sounds easy after the Bealach but it has some steep hills, is bloody windy and the rain comes out of nowhere. Still an amazing place though.

I remember chasing a lotus elise around those roads, in the Cerbera, while Mrs allandwf slept!!! Lol

It wasn't me! Though I've driven it a fair few times, including once when there was snow at the top. If you get it on a foggy day, it's.... interesting.

Last time I drove it was in the Maser, with one of these lit up on the dash ( ! )
Wasn't until I got back and posted on here I realised what it meant

I researched where to stay on the NC500 last week and a number of the places are not opening up at all this year or have some limiting restrictions

Glenmorangie House - Need to book 3 rooms
Smoo Lodge - Min 2 nights
Scourie Hotel - Not opening until April 2021
Inverlodge - Not opening until next season
Ackergill Castle- not sure it's a hotel anymore
Forss House - No reply to email

Hope this helps

It was Tut.

Ah Tut, what a character he was.

I chased him a few times, but never for too long, in part because his super charged Honda likely put out double the power of my little K-Series, and in part as I'm not crazy enough!
I remember following him to the Drum petrol station before a track day. On the way back the Knockhill, he pulls out and overtakes the car in front just before a blind corner, in a left hand drive car
