I just wanted to say hello from the US and ask for some help in buying my first Maserati GranSport (2006)

That GT is gorgeous.
IMO a Maserati ought to be somewhat understated. The engine makes a glorious sound. It's a piece of art to look at.
So it doesn't have to scream look at me, with crazy wheels or a fluorescent wrap. Or weird custom made body panels
or rear wings.
I'm convinced that bystanders and other drivers enjoy seeing a Maserati, partly because it's not a Porsche or Ferrari.
At the risk of starting WW3. I honestly believe that the GT is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
I really hope that this GT is everything you hope it is. I suspect that this dealer will be more reassuring in terms of their
professionalism.
Worst case. If it doesn't work out. Another car will appear on your radar soon, that is just as compelling as this one.
I stooged about in this forum, soaking up all the info I could, whilst looking for a GT for about eighteen months.
When I was wondering whether to give up and go to another marque, my GT popped up out of nowhere and I ended up
with a car which has brought me nothing but smiles. Truth be told, if I had the choice, I'd prefer the blue of the car you're checking out today. But, I also think the metallic dark grey of my car really suits it, so no complaints really.
Find a wide, long, straight bit of road and plant your right foot to the floor.
Then tell me it's not as much fun as a GS ;)

I test drove the 2011 Maserati GT and loved it. I put down a deposit on a purchase price of $37,000 and ordered a PPI. It start up with no rasp after sitting for a month. I couldn't do the PPI because they didn't have a lift and I didn't have the time but I checked it out somewhat and found very little to complain about. A couple small sticky bits, it needs rear tires and a battery. It didn't have a spare (was it supposed to have one?). On the bright side (BTW: very little to complain about is the bright side): the body was clean an straight.the paint and exterior trim were e excellent and it may be original with 22k miles. The engine and tranny seemed nice & strong but I could feel the weight of the car. Not as tossable as the GS, but stunning to look at and a perfect GT drive. Hopefully no gremlins living g deep under the skin and if not, I'll be joining the (Maserati) Club again. So happy I won't be doing it solo this time!

Sounds positive.

The GT carried over some of the GS faults as well as some new ones.

Cam gaskets
Parking sensors
Premature wear on front suspension bushes
Variators below a certain engine No.
Needs a perfect battery
Electric hanbrake is problematic if used
ABS sensors in the hub
Look out for trim damage over the rear seat central tunnel (suspect your kids will trash that part too)
Water in trunk well.
Faulty NIT HD drive that resuts in constant cycling.

That GTS - what a gorgeous spec. Great for kids, too. We had a Eurotour in my old one - two kids in their teens, two adults, 2.5-3k miles through France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and home. It's a proper touring car. It's also stunning to look at, listen to and to drive. You're right that it's not as chuckable as the GS but it's plenty quick enough, can show a clean pair of heels to most other cars and - more importantly - will make you grin like a bloody fool.

Good luck!

PS - check for underbody corrosion. If you get it, it'll be worth investing in a professional clean and underbody protection treatment.

What does ann underbody protective treatment look like and/or consist of? I want to keep it stock looking. The only rust I could find on this 2011 GT was these two connecting plates at the rear of the front sub frame that connect the subframe to the floor pan (right about where the front seat foot wells are, on the top side of the floor pan). It seems this part (plate) might no be galvanised because the rest of the underside is rust free.

Something like 'Waxoyl' or "Dinitrol.' ( soft wax anti corrosion treatment) You will have something similar in the US.

[/URL]

I had my old 2009 QP undersealed with 'Dinitrol' ( sprayed on) and it worked very well. You can also buy a 'Dinitrol" rust penetrating treatment spray which you can use prior to applying the wax coating. Can get it in clear and black colours.Hope this helps.

Something like this?

It's just a cover plate for fuel & brake lines. They're inexpensive to replace.

Like stock but cleaned and black. Think 'factory fresh' rather than 'road ravaged'.

WE BOUGHT THE 2011 MASERATI GT and WE LOVE IT! The Maserati specialist who checked out the car said it was a great well serviced, all original, 22k mile car and that I had to buy it, so we did! My sons love it but not as much as me...
