Some lovely cars coming through here, but when did 430 Scuds become just over £100k?? And a tidy looking GS sub-20k? I know it’s an auction and maybe slightly distressed sales, but this is a wonderful market for buyers.

Tip - if you see your own model car, skip over it.

The Scuderia was a bargain, it’s LHD and the auction was just as Armageddon arrived. The GS had a very patchy history, still £22k with fees.

some cheap motors there, not heard of these people until now, not sure I would be keen on handing over a 6% fee in advance to them and then dealing with a seller direct?

Yes that’s my thought too. Chris Harris’s backing gives it huge elevation.

on reflection, 6% buyers fee seems fairly high for not really doing much at all for it, traditional auction houses have huge overheads in comparison

They even charge that for number plates, which require virtually no description and no photos!

Prices on there for cars seem to be generally strong, with just a few exceptions. The 2005 GS that Dicky mentioned went higher than I expected. It'd only had 4 annual services in 14 years. Looked nice, but a few signs of money to be spent, and no record of clutch change. The buyer had bought it from Silverstone Auctions in Feb, hadnt registered it in his name, and was selling after a few hundred miles. In the questions on the auction the seller said it had been SORN'd and in storage and not used for 5 years which is why it had missed services.....but the MOT showed it had been driven every year.

i've found there are a lot of dealers/traders that use auction houses lately posing as private sellers and probably end up making a tidy profit due to bidding fever from private buyers that get a tad carried away, at least with a traditional auctions the cars there, you bid, you pay you get the keys there and then and off you go, no faffing about contacting seller

Nothing wrong with that, auctions, buyer beware. I’m a massive cynic, I usually think anything in an auction is best avoided.

tend to agree, I've had a few non diplomatic discussions with auction houses in the past with some very misleading descriptions, if you know what you're looking at you can get a nice genuine classic motor, but I have seen buyers buy nice shiny newly painted cars that are hiding nasty repairs and pay top money

My Mediterranean Blue 4200 was on there in March, but didn't make reserve sadly. Clearly horrendous timing with the start of lockdown!!

The team at Collecting Cars were great to deal with to be fair and it's good that there are no seller fees. I was really pleased with the listing write-up (based on an extensive consignment form), which I was able to edit before approving.

The hammer prices on all sorts of lovely cars seem to be all over the place though, as has been pointed out above. Definitely a buyer's market!!

That Fiat Dino looks silly cheap even if the panel gaps, especially doors look wrong and missing trim from both front wings would suggest replacements. Doubt the mileage is genuine looking at the wear around the glove box etc.

that's the thing I find amusing, technically it's the "vendors" write up as auction houses would have you believe, but in truth it's a load of poetic justice by the auction house itself, it's pretty much a private sale with no comeback on the auction house if mis-described

Yes that is a ripper. Do these prices include or exclude the auction handling fees? Either way.... Seems like a very well priced 575.
exclude, looks like you pay them 6% first and then deal with seller with payment/collection

One car I've always had a keenness for is the Lotus Esprit S4s. Never seem to see these at auction or private sale....

As said above, the same fee structure for registration plates is an absolute nonsense and prevents them from getting a better sale price.

Otherwise, this and The Market offer a splendid alternative to physical auction houses or Ebay.
