Yes you make a valid point and yes they have but two things to note...1. Legislation (or code to be precise) was only instituted a few days ago... Financial impacts however started a bit earlier and 2. As I've read many others here point out in relation to UK stimulus measures.... There will always be some who fall between the cracks. I'm not sure what these examples may be... People who'd been couch surfing perhaps. People who'd been subletting.... Domestic arguments causing broken homes.... People to ashamed, embarrassed or confused to know how to seek help. All I can say is... I saw the effects immediately. Fortunately, it's not scaled up... Methinks... As I'm not supposed to leave the house at night. But it's still sad for those affected. One blessing.... Many homeless people get a far safer and far better night's rest.

Forgive me im not insensitive, but i feel i am part of a dying breed , it took me an age to drum it into my kids heads aswell , i dont feel smug , i feel many younger generations were duped , but on the other hand they have all these university degrees now , but its not exactly rocket science but basic maths to realise if you live on credit that one day if things go pearshaped that the grim reaper will surely come knocking , ive never lived the high life but i lived through the 80's and 90's and that taught you a real lesson in life

Yes to the top one
Have none of the bottom one ...................................was taught when i was young ..........what you cant buy you dont have simple
Of course you can, unfortunately not many of today’s leveraged generation recognise budgets.

So, if international travel and trade is curtailed it seems to me that countries need to become self sufficient.
Simply look at the goods that are relied on externally.....produce them internally using the local workforce.....kinda like the Uk would need to to under Brexit anyway.
Cost isn’t an issue, the BOE will produce unlimited money so get the feck on with it.

No need to apologise.... I understand your viewpoint. I only vaguely recall when australia copped 18% interest rates...but it caused my parents to divorce, and we rented a different house every 6 months. It's going to be an interesting generational clash (and scarcity of resource will always drive conflict within any population)... On one hand we have an older generation... Say 50 plus, who've been the beneficiaries of absurdly escalating asset values (property prices), and who have lived through relatively low tax regimes and overly generous government funding... But who have lived through lean times and who do recall what it means to go without. At least in a contemporary australian context. On the other hand we have young kids, who through no fault of their own face an astoundingly overpriced property market and an endless road of higher taxes and reduced government largesse... And this crew have not seen a recession in 27 years, so they're in for one heck of a ride...

The savings situation here is absolutely appalling and simply confirms global econmomies are built on quicksand.
Half the figures quoted for GBP£!!

If this is the state of individual finances during apparently strong economic conditions (as touted by politicians) what on earth is around the corner.

Think of all the debt that will go boom.

Some one give Keith a few hundred quid , his focus needs to be on his work ,not worrying about his next meal ,and where he is going to sleep
