Indeed. Makes you think twice about buying and selling cars to/from some random public that you don't know from Adam.

The forums are great to put trusted buyers and sellers together to avoid all these issues.

I'd bet my house It wasn't an auction , can you see a bidding on a straight 40k mercedes ending at £9000

They were mugged by their own stupidity.

I'm not sure anyone however naive deserves this though do they?

Although obviously the simple rule of something being too good to be true can apply here of course.

Regardless anyone could be going to buy any car of any value that may be perfectly legitimate only to be intercepted this way.

I didn't think many still bought cars with cold hard cash these days though.

I think you can be sure ether seller insisted on cash!

And of course no one deserves to be robbed but..... it feels like all the tell tale signs were there.

Of course they don't but they were blinkered to the risks because they were getting a 2 year old car that was close to 40k new for 25% of that , 2018 , it could be 14 months old!

The first thing I'd have been asking is, this car is worth 20-25k , why are they selling it for 9k and why does it have to be cash.

As we know some people aren't the sharpest tools in the box. Sometimes they need to be protected from themselves!

We often see ebay links on here being posted showing such a cheap Maserati. Makes you think, was this such a cheap lure?
Maybe people still think that cash in the hand is king and that bank transfers are not the same thing despite being instant. And to drive from Norwich....

I don't think there's any doubt about it being a lure , the "are you here" phone call and a load of masked blokes jumping out of a van is a clue Peter Sellers couldn't miss.

Someone I knew bought a cheap Audi TT cab from that neck of the woods. Thought it was a 2.0 FWD. Had to take it to the police after his brother in law pointed out the rear diff and he discovered it was a ringer.

This seems like a natural progression, but without the trouble of stealing the car in the first place. As always, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.

It was probably a low priced, buy it now auction with cash on pick up as payment option. Easy bate for people who want something too good to be true.

Must admit I hate cash deals like this and try to avoid them, unknown source, cheap and cash would have bells ringing and I hope I would be careful enough but you never know

I feel for these people, yes, stupid but its easily done.

Last week, we had the armed police at our offices as the girl downstairs had bought a cheap BMW for cash online and it turned out to be nicked and used in a robbery.

She lost the car and her money...not so cheap now is it but felt very sorry for the young lass.
