Very well put together instructions, this should keep a few folk on the right track.

Should be very similar. The drain plugs should be in the same spots.

Cool, mines a 2006 and according to the service record and bills etc, DS and GB/diff oil never changed, my manual says oil there is for life. Next job this I think.

This is for gearbox only tho - is yours a DS/CC and have you done the change on that too?

The Gearbox oil is recommended in the service manual for every 2 years (it's the automatic ZF I believe that they say is lifetime fluid). If it's never been done it's probably pretty nasty. I don't know how old mine was (no service records came with car) but it was pretty black.

The DuoSelect (e.g. F1/CC fluid) they say no need to replace. Many still do on a regular basis. I have not replaced mine yet. Replacing it properly requires a scan tool to bleed after (which I have) but just have not gotten around to it yet. Some replace it simply by on a regular basis sucking out a large portion of it and then refilling it. Overtime then, eventually all fluid should get replaced this way. I'm not sure how well this actually works to get all the gunk out of the system.

Right-o - I'll get the gearbox done ASAP - it's whining slightly 1st and 2nd, not too bad, heard worse, if I can lose that car would be silent in the cockpit!

117k miles, expect some looseness and whine, but the 1st/2nd thing is the only indication the car is so old/high miles.

Looking at manual now I see gb/diff change once a year, DS check once a year...

Excellent write ups, thanks!

To add a little bit to help find the filter wrench in the UK it is an 86mm 18 Flute wrench. Also do make sure you check the oil pipe nut that attaches the oil suction pipe from the bottom of the tank to the oil pump for cracks. These are regularly in a bad state.

Regarding the gearbox oil refill, it was recommended to me to check the level after a short run as you will probably be able to get more in.

Yikes on the cracks.

Will need to check mine. What’s the fix? Do you need to replace the entire hose pn#194456 (pretty expensive). Any similar issues on the upper hose (looks like the same coupling).

Fortunately not, Hill engineering have a product that replaces the nut in situ. These pics are from when we did the work on @Mr S ’s GS.

If the thought of the cost of the nut is a stumbling block, (beyond the thought of you loosing all your engine oil suddenly), trust me its well worth it. Beautiful bit of engineering. I am regularly exposed to fancy machining and engineering stuff, and i was impressed with the quality. Power to weight ratio will go down slightly also! Lol
