GS noise - what’s closest to a F360 / F430 sounding exhaust

I’ve just watched The Car Guys latest video comparing the Challenge Stradale to the 430 scud and it’s made me thinking about what would get me a similar sound for my GranSport?

I really like the 360 noise / whine / scream so it doesn’t have to be really loud, just a better note and a bit more noise in sport mode. I’m factory standard at the moment but pretty much always in sport mode.

Any suggestions welcome as I’m thinking I might do a few enhancements and taking my car off the market as it’s flat as a pancake.

Well, the Ferraris have flat plane cranks, but the GS has a cross plane so you can't get them exactly the same.

A variety of other options will be along shortly

Have a look at what MAF260 did to his Yellow GS exhaust system, that pretty much what you'd have to do.

His car is currently in the for sale section with modifications listed.

It still will not have the 360s scream at full chat through

MAF’s car has a Larini H pipe. These generally create a more off beat, American V8 type sound. The X pipe merges the off beat exhaust pulses and so is higher pitched, slightly more F-car like noise. But none will sound like a Ferrari because the flat plane crank means they sound like two four cylinder engines in stereo, where as the cross plane means that there are different timings between certain cylinders on each rotation.

If you want deep bassy NASCAR sound then go H pipe so that pulses don’t mix the same evenly as an X pipe flow.

I shot a great comparison video a couple of years ago with X vs H on straight rears (4200). Chose your poison... I know what i prefer !

MAF also changed the manifolds, so that they were catless

Indeed. It sounds epic (better than a Ferrari* - in my personal view - but let’s face it, either is awesome!) but doesn’t have the high pitched element that could make it more F-car like.

* V8, just in case Athol gets upset

Thanks everyone, and especially thanks for the video. X and H both sound amazing, the noise of the H is not what I was expecting - it sounds so sooo good!

all other suggestions are very much welcome too. Thank you all!

Mark.

I fitted my old GS Spyder, now with Mr Pea, with larini sports cats and h pipe (I think bit it was a few years ago) and it sounded epic. Standard at rear.

Right decision to hold onto her by the way, in this market.

Thanks Dave, yeah I think I’ll spend a bit of money on it and keep it for a few years as I do love it. I might as well keep it as it’s just not selling and it’s getting towards a silly low price so I’ll get a new exhaust, new tyres, and a fancy radio for sat nav.

There’s just nothing else I fancy at this price and even if I did sell for something cheaper I’d probably end up with £5k in my pocket so I’m starting the realise it’s probably not worth the bother.

Not going to get the flatplane sound, but going x-pipe and no back boxes does make it "noticeable". Here the link to a sound file (the 4200/GS Hybrid Sound File one) in a post from Rockits (made before I got the car from him).

@conaero's former black GS was quite high pitched I think that was the closest to a Ferrari I have heard especially with the valves closed. Valves open it really hurt your ears
