My buttons are okay, but the centre consul tray with the door mirror switch has suddenly gone all goey... so looks like i'll be stripping this sooner rather than later. The CD slot cover isn't far behind either.

I did this last night! By far the easiest part so far. Gently lever it up with a small screwdriver covered with a rag. Careful not to damage the plastic surround! Then you can dismantle it to remove all the buttons so you've got a nice flat (if fragile) surface to clean.

I'm assuming people are removing their window switches to clean them? Is battery isolator required or is it enough to have ignition off only?

I had the switch panel out when I put in the radio, I did it with the isolator off but I doubt it would cause an issue without.

How do we get the window switches off (4200)? It’s the last bit of de-sticking I need to do!

It looks like there's a slot at the handbrake end of the gear selector panel - do I just stick a screwdriver in that and lever carefully?

Just done my heater controls, and sport and start buttons, used isopropyl alcohol, toothbrush and finger nail, then gave them a cote of Matt lacquer for protection, looks like I am going to have to do every part in the car, as everything that has that finish is sticky
Jasst, how's the Hycote holding up? I've got my buttons nice and clean but I'm in two minds whether to leave them as is or try to protect them against long term wear.

Holding up well so far, but don't exactly get a lot of use, wouldn't be happy leaving them unprotected, if you ear out the black layer, then your in a whole world of pain trying to refurb that.

That was my thinking too. Is it single coat application or do you need to build it up in layers like the plasticoat stuff?

Has anyone had the backs of the front seats go sticky?

If so what have you done about it if anything?

Mine are starting .......

Argh!

I managed to clean up my switches a few weeks back nicely (first pic), then got hold of a can of Hycote as described by @jasst so thought I'd have them out again and protect them.

3 of the 4 are perfect, but somehow the spray has reacted with the sport button. The surface has puckered and inevitably brought some of the black away with it.

So, I'm now on the look-out for a replacement. Also a set of hens' teeth and some rocking horse p00 while we're at it.

Like the first pic, not so much the second one! Try SopranoStu. He has broken a few GSs.
