8c - Harry’s Garage review - Sound and,,, how much??

See the link below from Harry’s new Garage vid.

So couple of points-
1) anyone know how they got it so much louder than the GTS, even my Strad is not that loud. Have seen a couple of other videos and they all seem to confirm to my ear at least that they seem louder
2) How much??? Did not realise that the coupe is now over £220k.... I know I’ve invested in limited run and plaqued cars but that is a real return in 9 years on the list price of £110k. Perhaps I should stick an Alfa badge on :)

Sounds the same loudness as an MC Shift with an X pipe and the rear valves open. I actually think the MC Shift has a nicer tone. Surely the Strad is louder?

Really gets on my wick when these journos hark on about single clutch gearboxes of the time. Get over it.....it is a single clutch manual gearbox.

To me they are the better for it. More like a human characterful analogue experience which is great IMHO. None of this new age dual clutch digital boring bs we have to endure in every sports car these days.....yawn!

1) Alfa/Maserati engineers spent hours fine tuning the note. Same engine as in the GTS/Strad but different exhaust. SPORT mode opens the valves. No better sounding than a GTS with Larini Cats and X/H.
2) Numbers game, supply and demand plus Alfa's seem to have more hardcore followers. Spaceframe and Carbon bodied also add value.

Yup. They're certainly better than a manual, which seems to be fawned over by purists as offering the most engaging experience. Oh, alongside PDK which is almost the exact opposite of a manual yet is still fawned over. I'd argue that our dual-plate, single-clutch robotised manual 'boxes are the best of both worlds, combining driver engagement with flexibility and an ability to change gear without letting go of the steering wheel. Which is surely a good thing. I loved mine on the GTS and love it again on the Vantage.

always wanted the 8c - never had that 110k in 2006 when I was still married.
If it was launched today at that price I would chop in all my vehicles and borrow the rest.

Agreed 100% Adam.

After seeing that video it has half destroyed my affections of the 8c though. It doesn't half ride badly doesn't it?! Not sure I could live with that. Makes a GS look like a God in ride comparison.

That sound is almost exactly that of the strad (with Xpipe). I guess the difference you speak of is from the 8c's lack of sound deadening as heard from the inside. Lovely looking car, hard to imagine that price is fair with 2 door strads at 60K or less!

I quite like the shift, makes them characterful. Super quick shifts take some of the drama out of the changes.
He’s right about the reverse noise/seatbelt though.

It’s funny the 612 was never slagged off about it, despite it being the same system (iirc).

Makes you think what Maserati could have done with that engine and a small GS size body... oh wait.

That sounds hideous, I don’t mean the exhaust or engine but the rattles, crashes and bangs over every bump would drive me insane, I’ve driven full on race cars that are more refined. I’ve not been in one of the modern carbon tub supercars but I’d hope they were better than that. Maserati every time for me.

The Alfa is a very different car to the GT though, it’s shorter and 300kg lighter. A like for like comparison is probably an Aston V8 Vantage, which is again heavier and better damped (drove a 4.3 recently and rather enjoyed it), and there’s more of them.

There isn’t really anything that’s directly comparable really...

Maybe I should hold into the Strad then...

Add another 5 years when it’ll be 10 years old and say worth 50% of the 8C price now,,, I’ll take £115k...... oops, that’s what I paid for it cash,,,,

10 years for parity.... inverse bell curve...

So he's wrong about it being based on the GranTurismo right? The engine seems to be GT based but the chassis is mostly GS? Seems like the electronic systems are very similar.

Was behind one on the ferry to Le Mans Classic this year, looks nice but so does my GS, definitely not for 10x the price!

Trouble is Phil, there's really only one way for the GS, nothing personal... where's the 8C on the other hand is heading for the stars!

Funny, Its the only car I've driven where the drop head Spider version without a roof is a miles better car than Coupe with one, I never quite worked that out!
