Didn’t you test drive it first?! If you remapped it- you would get an extra 20bhp out of it and it would feel like you were towing yourself to the closest Masarati specialist with a voided warranty :/ PS - I think the wrap is epic . Would love to see the kids on a school run!! Don’t conform to the rest of the parents
Hi Iain, thanks for your kind words. I did test drive it but I weren't allowed to rag it - as later mentioned I'm happier with the performance now I've learnt about the upper rev range. If you meant the test drive regarding the jerking this is something I didn#t experience nor remember noticing in my first few weeks of ownership. As above I'm hopeful Matt's tip as seen to any issues.

When I first seriously searching supercars I always wanted an f430 (pref Scud) but couldn't afford it - let alone that 458 of yours. Envious to say the least. Now that's a machine that would take my breath away I'm sure, on that note Lancaster Ferrari Colchester didn't even allow me to take their f430 out for a test drive. Thanks again for your reply.

Clutch is a wear item anyway surely? Not covered by warranty...
If you and this is correct then I'm more desperate than ever for it not to be clutch, I wasn't too concerned in the "knowledge" it was covered.

I've had 2 clutches go on me before, the Nova and the Saxo, both obv. manuals and I didn't know if this "jerking" in a 2 pedal was the first sign of serious wearing??

I couldn’t have afforded the tyres on the 458 at Your age - was paying off medical school debts! So to have a Maserati in your 20s - hats off you will be in a 430 in no time. The journey is the best part of car ownership isnt it- different experiences and incremental gains. The guys on this forum are fantastic - and will get you out of all sorts of pickles if anything goes wrong. It’s the best forum I have ever known, and I am waiting until the right car comes up to get back into a maserati. (Most of us are waiting for a 600hp+ 2+2...)
I think the scuds look fantastic but slightly out of the price range my wife would allow. Send photos when you get chance!

I'm clinging on to my early 30s, but feel like a teenager still. Would you prefer a scud over your 458?
You mentioned getting back into a Maserati but surely that's a backwards step unless you mean to keep the 458 too? That medical school debt sounded well worth it in the long run. :)
Yes I agree about the forum, scoobynet is/was a bit mental, people getting chucked out, coming back with new alias, people not sending out sold products. Maserati's ooze class and so far that's the impression I have of you forum members.

Is that what you say to all your plastic surgery clients?!…
Hopefully not after Iain has performed his rejuvenation process....(but this could be glib, as no doubt there are other types, burns, scaulds etc etc)

The truth is sad Dave. I do LOTS of cancer and trauma operations - and to be honest I enjoy them much more. The fact is though- I have only been able to justify buying these cars due to the extra cosmetic work I do. I do quite enjoy it- but it’s hard work. Lots of extra long days and weekends. But blimey I enjoy the drive home!!

Good question. I like the modern tech and feel of the 458. The scud is pretty raw and you certainly couldn’t drive it as much. I haven’t driven them back to back - I wouldn’t say no to either! I am thinking of something more sophisticated nexf, after pressure from my family and a couple of colleagues. I have a good offer on a factory order DB11 for a sept sale. (Disclaimer: I have a young car loving daughter and a wife angry I bought a 2 seater) Thoughts?

I realised that, which is why I put the extra bit on, I tip my hat to you, if you can help people in pain; and also help others feel better about themselves and you enjoy it, and it provides a good living, All well and good for me, you’ve worked hard enjoy it, is the Paris bit done now then?

Yes done thank god- which probably cost me around 20k in rent and lost earnings. But good for the CV and the Soul. Back to Brexit wracked Britain...where it’s perversely now cheaper to go for new cars than nearly new. There is a disaster looming in the car market. It’s ludicrous how different the ‘best’ deals are to the advertised deals. I don’t understand how consumers allow it- we wouldn’t go into a store and not offer to pay the advertised price

Agree about the latter, I was looking at a Merc GLS to replace my Discovery and you can get £20k+ off if you look around enough. Still not an easy sell mind as upper fifties on a diesel SUV is still taking a risk.

Thanks for this tip, I will try this next time I'm out. Is this something people do daily or just when the jerkiness gets worse? The car has done 52k, no idea if it's had a new clutch.

Now you mention it it does tend to be worse when cold.

When selecting reverse and 1st am I supposed to hear quite a distinctive click of the gear change? This sound can also be heard when flicking up through the gears too albeit quieter.

I would really love 1 of you owners to see it and give me your opinion first hand before the warranty expire but I'm miles away from most of you stuck out on he east coast.

If the car is on 52K it will of had a clutch, if not, it will be the clutch.

The GTS is pretty nailed on with clutch wear and failure. They start to bu99er about in the mid 30 thousands. You can limp them into the 40's but other that the odd rare case, they don't seem to go any further which I feel is acceptable for this type of car/system. The 4200 predecessor was never consistent like the GTS is.

If they usually go in the 30s it sounds like -if it's already had a new one - that itself could be destined to die soon. Seemed OK today though - Cheers

My first one lasted 98k, seems unbelievable but I have all bills, main dealer, no gaps, car was Charles Hurst, Belfast, straight down to the South where it lived till I bought it. As far as I know only two people can do clutches on the island of Ireland, Charles Hurst in Belfast and Ken Plant in Dublin, and Ken has never seen this car.

Yes - there is a noticeable click, but if you can hear it when you are moving you aren't making enough noise.... :D

This is one of my fav messages, I LOL'ED!!

Really happy to read this.

On the note of gear changes, sometimes it's almost instant and sometimes if feels soooo sloooow. Is this due to the revs?
