Im surprised you had better fuel economy with the sensor not working. But maybe you have a lighter right foot. There again it could be the fact that it was not as powerful due to sensor failure and open circuit that meant it used less fuel.

This is an immobiliser issue that occurs with older ECUs. The only option is to have the ECU taken out , immobliser removed. I would recommend doing this soon. Worst case scenario is the heat from the relay will start an electric fire! 20 amp is not meant to make components very hot.

What codes did you get from ECU?

This was normal on my Lamborghini Gallardo I use to have.
