Doh!! The bonnet was on first catch. What a learning curve. Thanks for that, I'm a lot more sanguine now about spending some money on ABS etc. Will it need a reset when the new sensors are fitted?

It drives ok I believe, it went on the trailer ok and drove onto the 4 post lift but now will not select a gear. It shows it's in drive when I turn the key, then once started shows neutral and will not respond to the microswitches on the lever but beeps. Maybe a trip to Trafford Park (project 3)...

I bought a cradle/subframe for 180 in Blackpool but it doesn't have the worst bit - the crossmember which supports the gearbox, that's crust. I see there is project 3 in manchester, does anyone have experience? BTW the previous owner is offering me two new ABS sensors for 600, is that reasonable?
