When you connect the NIT cable, it connects the two pins together, meaning that you do effectively have the jumper connected. Hence needing to remove the pins so the NIT cable is unable to connect them together

Just the very end pair, I doubt snapping both pairs off would hurt though. The metal is soft so be careful not to bend the normal pins in the process!

It was this one, though it was a bit cheaper than that I think. Any IDE SSD should do the trick, a Compact Flash card with an IDE adapter may be a cheaper option but I've not tried it! As for the copying, I used a command line tool called dd. Are you a Windows, Mac or Linux user?

I've used a 64GB SSD, I haven't had much time to check if its any faster or not, will report back after a few days.

You seem to be able to get them for a £2-300 or so, cheaper to get the cable separately, presuming that is my current issue. Could be useful for other spare parts people needed in the future though I've attached a few more photos, to be honest I'm struggling with the continuity checking...
