If doing smaller areas/components, I tend to use a corrosion primer inhibitor such as Corroless S1 on most things with a top coat of Dacthane coach enamel which I believe is used on motorbike frames a lot. My subframe was actually soda blasted, inhibitor primed and powder coated as had the whole...
Funny thing is my steering wheel air bag does require a hole in the centre but is a 6 spine. The only 5 spline I had was the passenger air bag. No doubt Maserati used what they had at the time
Never said they were small jobs. I was getting misting on the inside windscreen and could see some visible surface rust on parts of the subframe so wanted to address these and hopefully avoid a bigger issue in the future.
No I don't do it for a living. With my OCD I'd never make any money the time it takes me! Have been an active home mechanic for longer than I care to admit with a few nut and bolt restos under my belt. The wife wanted me to move away from 70s classics and buy myself something newer I wasn't...
Thanks. Having seen who they can deteriorate I wanted to take it down for closer inspection. Caught mine in time and stripped back to bare metal. Interestly, my frame looked to be in factory original paint where it wasn't surface rusted and had a number of small holes for injecting rust...
Hi Guys. With some free time on my hands recently I decided to tackle a few jobs on my 2004 Coupe. In the last few weeks I've replaced the dreaded heater matrix, replaced the cam cover gaskets, stripped and repainted the intake fanymold and removed the front subframe for a referb. All using...
Replaced the matrix on mine a couple of weeks ago following this really excellent how to and input from other forum members. Thought I had all the required tools on hand but got caught out with the passenger air bag torque screws. I have a large set of them but all mine are the usual 6 spline...
Out in my 4200 CC most of the day and had to adjust fan a few times between too cold and not enough. If its got Climate Control it doesn't work that well but definately very cold when you want it to be.
Sounds like a challenging job you've got there especially working under axle stands. Can't offer any advice but more than happy to pop over and help out should you need another pair of hands. ;)
