I had the car on sale or return for 6 months for the gentleman I sold it to 7 years back, it didn’t sell, had lots of enquiries but not one viewing. It’s immaculate. Inspected at Autoshield. I’d say it’ll be £35k or so plus fees which is more than it could have been bought retail from me with a warranty.

Thanks for that Richard - colour scheme wouldn’t be my first choice TBH, but they are so scarce will have to compromise

Interesting I was watching that too. Wonder why nobody wants it. Maybe much has changed since these were making £40k+ a few years back.

I don't think Collecting Cars often care about getting the best price or find the buyers that want to pay top money for the cars. I was going to list the TVR with them but they wanted to list it with a reserve of only £20k. I politely declined.

It is effectively a private sale then add their fees on top.

They aren’t doing a great deal for their fee that’s for certain

There was several different bidders on it in last 1/2 hour - it does it appear they’ve come down a good few quid based on that

Never been a fan of black leather interiors on these but do like the exterior colour. Never been a convertible fan either so not an easy sell to me :D

@Nayf have you done copy for Collecting Cars in the past?

I see they did move away from the £600 flat buyer's premium (which they made a big thing about on one of Harris' podcasts early on in the pandemic), but 6% is still competitive and they do a lot more for their money than most auction houses with the copy and the photos.

Regarding reserves, they want to present that most auctions result in sales.

If their model is not for you, plenty of other outlets whether that be the premium offering of paddlup, the low rent option of Facebook or the usual miriad of ebay, Autotrader, Pistonheads, The Market, Anglia Car Auctions, CCA, H&H, Brightwells, SWVA etc in between.

I don't think for an auction house that charges no seller's fee they care less about getting the best price than any of the alternatives and in fact do more than most.

I dread to think what Derek at Mathewsons would do.

Not sure what you had it up for, but sounds like it reached what could be expected given buyer's premium and no warranty.

And nobody cares more about getting the best car at the best price than Dicky.

The market will be softening anyway, but whilst the rest of the market was overinflated during the pandemic, Maseratis remained by and large overlooked. But that's nothing we didn't know already. Men of a certain age and disposable income want Fast Fords and Porsches (except @Ewan of course).

As a very quick comparison though, two 3200 manuals have been sold in the past 3 months on Collecting Cars.

UK car with 63,535 miles sold for £10,250

German car with 82,440 Km sold for €30,750

Can't get decent prices for used Maserati in this country because of bloody Brexit ;) or, you've never had it so good being able to buy used Maserati at these prices because of bloody Brexit ;)

Tbh I don’t think he could’ve put it up for sale at a worse time, end of season(convertible), energy prices on the verge of rocketing, high fuel prices still fresh in everybody’s memory. Maseratis are a limited market at the best of times.

I've not worked for Collecting Cars at all, or any of the auction companies to be fair. If I post something on twitter it's usually because I'm bored. It's counter productive really, as the manual straight-six E32 was £100 when I posted it on twitter. Next time I looked it was five grand!

The GranSport Spyder is very much a curate's egg within another curate's egg, Maseratis pre-GranTurismo, within another curate's egg, Maseratis in general.

Let's put it this way, it's not a car you choose as an alternative to an XKR X150 or Aston V8 Vantage Volante, or perhaps ze Germans, on a like for like basis; on purely objective terms that's a long list of cars that are often simpler to look after (if not necessarily cheaper), or more powerful, etc. The market for GranSport Spyders consists of those who are specifically looking for a GranSport Spyder, if you follow me; it's not something the average punter will buy on a whim. Thus a wide-market place like Collecting Cars – indeed, any auction – was the wrong place to put it.
