Everything is now back in place with replacement springs. The only issue I had was that the 'compensator' ring (which is a corrugated flimsy thin piece of metal that wraps around the lower bolt) is warped and won't fit back in place. I have ordered another one but I won't be able to fit the replacement until next weekend.
Does anyone know what this compensator ring actually do? The lower bolt is firmly fixed in place and it is tightly torqued. I can't see it coming loose anytime soon. Can I drive the car until I fit the new part?

Does it not support the head end of the bolt in the aluminium upright?

It does go around the bolt but it's quite flimsy. I wonder what it adds from an engineering perspective. i'm hoping to be able to use the car this week.

If it is a sleeve for the bolt to prevent crushing of the upright, I wouldn’t be driving it.
