I've a question re upgrading a transmission control unit (NCR) in a 2006 or a 2007 QP-V... where the car is NOT a Sport GT. Let me explain further...

In North America all QP-V's after VIN number 21925 had SOFAST3+ associated with their DuoSelect transaxles... and CFC301F.62 NCR's - except for the 2007 Sport GT models which had CFC301F.64 NCR's. This latter-cited NCR gave the car superior DuoSelect performance, with 35% faster shifts (under some conditions) and by the accounts of many folks is the one to get. I'm told that to switch a car that had the former F.62 NCR over to the F.64 version a "Proxi Alignment" would be necessary. Fine, this can be done. However, are any other specific software files necessary to have, say, from Maserati HQ, in order to effect this change? In the following case of a NIT upgrade, the "files from HQ" issue was a problem:

This seems to be a NCR firmware change ? Not sure Proxi alignment would help as this only determines what ECU‘s are expected on the vehicle including any minor setup options. If the better firmware does not require any additional inputs from any other vehicle ECU or mechanical upgrade then it should be plug and play.

Thx All, for answers... To answer the last Member, seems to me the transmission ECU does need to talk to the engine ECU... does that make sense? I will also try to get hold of tulit, and will share answers here.

If this change can be done, then it seems to me that the impact in the value of the 2006 QP-V's could be considerable. A person could buy a post 21925 VIN 2006 QP-V or an Executive or Std 2007... and have as nice shifting a car as a 2007 Sport GT... Substantial improvement from what I can tell.

The other thing is that all of the parameters stored in the old TCU... like number of times ea. gear has been selected, number of miles covered in ea. gear, etc... would have to be migrated over to the new TCU. Another member, if memory serves, noted this in another thread. Important for a ppi where the individual doing the inspection is savvy. Corroborates indicated mileage on the speedo.

Yes. That was me that mentioned that on another thread. Number of miles in each gear is recorded on the tcu and combined they should total the number of miles on the speedometer.
