Right, sorry for the tease then silence! Had a lot of work on so didn’t manage to get this finished

What do we think of this? It’s hard to photograph; the blue is actually lighter than it appears - it’s Mazda MX5 Innocent Blue.
I have 2 more that are primed and I could do in a colour of your choice.

  • The centre is real carbon fibre.
  • The clock hands are metal.
  • The mechanism is a German AA battery powered quartz jobbie. I have had one of these clocks up for over a decade and got sick of the cheap Chinese ones breaking after a year.

I’m not sure on pricing. I was going to get a really special metal flight case and stick them on eBay for a very premium price, but am note sure that’s the right move.

That looks great. What is the diameter and the weight?

Also quite amused that you appear to have made a metric clock! (EDIT: Actually not even metric, but Octal...)

Thanks guys! It’s 4.6kgs, but I’ve had one hanging on a decent screw and real plug (into a solid wall - wouldn’t recommend for stud walls!) for ages. It’s only a shearing force - there’s no moment to speak of.
It’s about 30cm - here’s a pic with pen for scale. Also shows off the colour better in daylight.

The metric thing is frustrating! Very few cars have 6 or 12 mounting points. LMP2 cars tend to, from my extensive research on the matter!

So I suppose the big question is will anyone bid me £250 (posted) for a custom colour one? I can get touch up spray cans for most car colours.

I’m going to take the silence to mean that this was an unfair price! I don’t do this professionally, just thought it might be fun following those keyrings - so I’m open to price suggestions!

The other thing I could do is take your used disks next time you change yours, and make a personalised clock for you. I’m based in Cambs near the A1 so quite a central location. I suspect those would weigh a tonne though!

I think it's cool but fundamentally it's 'just' a clock. With a weight problem ;)

At £250 I think it's firmly in the 'I'm a racing nerd and this was an F2 car disc from $whatever'

I'd stick it in a flight case, print a certificate of authenticity and put it on ebay for £500.

Just not where I'd spend £250 but I can see lots of people would
