PZeros are perfect for summer and there is no point in throwing them away. The haters just want them / expect then to work in conditions that they were not designed for .... a bit like me moaning that my winter tyres don't provide enough grip on 30 degree C days.

I have been driving on them since I got my Alpina in January... I have yet to experience the 1 month of the year in this country when they can actually reach their operating temperature. They are not terrible but there are much better tyres suited to the UK's road conditions.

Really? For wheels or tyres?

Swapping tyres per wheel I think

I have P-zeros on the Continental. Not got anywhere near pushing it to its limits, but by god they are noisy

Very tempted to get some winter tyres since there is a significant chance I'll be heading to Reigate on a semi-regular basis, but £250 a corner.....

All the local indies are quoting me £20-25 plus VAT per corner. Protyre is £25 plus VAT

Maybe I just sound gullible (or rich).

The other thing you could do is go to black circles and the like, make like you are buying some tyres and get a cost for fitting. You will see most places will charge £10-15 for that and dispose of the old ones.

I pay 20 a corner to change tyres and have encountered all manner of problems (lies?) when trying to get them changed in the past.

I have been told:

  • our insurance doesn't cover us unless we supply the tyres
  • we are not insured for a car of that value
  • you need a special machine to do wheels that big
  • the liability doesn't make it worth our while
  • removing tyres and balancing is time consuming, £150 is cheap!

More and more tyre places will refuse to fit tyres not supplied by them, National are one. Just got a couple of tyres for my van and got my local garage to fit them, £20 each including valve, balance and disposal.

A few years ago Kwik-Fit would do my tyre swaps, and then next time the manager said they no longer did it, but would this time 'as a favour', but when I showed up for the appointment some insolent grease-monkey said it was 'against the rules' so I went to the indy literally next door, which has been very good. £80 all in, which is, now I come to think of it, £16 per corner (plus VAT).

Ah, not that bad then. Offer them cash!

So yet another thread on tyres...
I need advice on wheel sizes and winter swapping options.

...[blah blah]...

So, what should I do, as I make this transition? Is the answer:
  • take the R19 Sottos off the 4.2 and put on the P-zeros so that WBAC get those
  • buy four new R19 rims in the autumn and put the Sottos on them
  • replace the R20 P-zeros with something better eventually
  • try to sell the one Goodyear Eagle

I am making progress.....

DONE: take the R19 Sottos off the 4.2 and put on the P-zeros so that WBAC get those
DONE: buy four new R19 rims in the autumn and put the which already have Sottos on them: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324469671430
(which is good as I also have two good 19in Sottos in the garage)

TO DO:
I really must get the Pzeros (two newish, two oldish) off the new QPV asap.
So:
  • keep the existing 20in rims and buy some decent 20in tyres (and try to sell the two good p zeros)
or:
  • try to sell the existing 20in rims (with tyres)
    • buy new (20in GT S) ones (with or without decent tyres)
    • buy new 19in rims (might be more comfy) and just buy 3 new GY Eagles (I already have one)
Thanks for listening....

The trouble with that sort of deal is that I always feel that by paying cash so they can avoid paying their taxes, I'm just microscopically increasing the tax rate that I have to pay in general. (And microscopically contributing to a retreat into the dark ages of lawlessness and mayhem.) YMMV

You make a fair point. Do what works for you.

I’d be tempted to try the 20s as you might find you like them. The 19” option sounds cheaper though.

Maybe. At the moment I'm finding SPORT a bit firm and non-sport a bit wallowy (its a Skyhook thing, I guess), so I was wondering if 19 + SPORT might be ideal.

This is a gts wheel.

Have a look at 19" ghibli wheels. The pcd is the same and the offset not far off. I was going to fit 20" ones until mine came up for sale.
