It could be a couple of jets being scrambled to intercept those Pesci Russians , sonic boom !

would agree have heard them a few times, now the are saying the sound was heard in New York and could be the new stealth jet Aurora’s ‘pulse detonation engine’

Was it not a stolen design. Something I'm sure I read but could of dreamt it. As just coming out of my raving days in early 90

Bit of thread resurrection; Cambridge, Herts, Essex and East London were subjected to a very loud sonic boom this afternoon about 13.10 as a Typoon when 'hot' to intercept a jet heading for London and escort it into Stanstead airport. The Typhoon safely returned to RAF Conningsby about 50 mins later.

I can tell you it made the house shake and some pebbles fall off the walls and most people came out of their houses wondering what it was!

The thread started with Phil saying "I'm out of the country..."

How times change!

Anyhoo, couldn't see anything in the press about this. Any more info?

I was at an airshow , Lakenheath late 80s , the Americans were doing a display in f/18 hornets , they all went off in different directions to reform then do a fast pass over the runway parallel to the crowd

Only one of them went a bit wide so gave it a bit of a squirt to catch up , there was a loud rumble and every car alarm in the car park went off

I bet words were said in the debrief :D

Twas a very big bang indeed.

Cracking up at the comments on our local Faceplace group:
It wasn't loud enough
or my favourite
It sounded too low....

We had corn dogs for dinner last night. First time I’ve had them since we went on a school trip to Upper Heyford where the USAF had F111s. We had lunch in the American school canteen. It was just like something from the movies for a 10 year old.

Best bit about the airshows was the oil drum barbecue

Oh and the Tom cruise wannabee sat against the boot of his mustang with the hatchback up , music on loud and the AC on full blast

Until I asked him if that steam was supposed to be coming out of the bonnet

Similarly I went to one somewhere (Mildenhall maybe?) in the early 90s where a B52 took off and all the cars had a similar reaction. Incredible noise.

I was lucky enough to see the SR71 fly a few times at Mildenhall in the 80s when the did proper airshows, it was breathtaking on take off , you could see shock wave rings in the aferburners

The noise was phenomenal

I'm kind of scared to ask. What are the brown things on sticks?
Yes, I thought for a moment that the 'item' at five o'clock must be a corn dog/puppy.
I guess that the nod to reheating more nutritious meals is NOT to cover everything in
cheese ;)
