Diagnosing the F1 System

Wow, what an amazingly helpful lot you all are !

Regarding: "Can it read and reset the air bag warning light?" and "Hi yes it can.", I thought I'd try anyway.
Going through the Maserati menus through to "System Selection" throws up the following system options:

Motronic Bosch Engine Management System ME 7.1.1
ABS/ASR (Anti-lock Braking System 5.7 BOSCH)
Iso Airbag Control
Automatic Gearbox

Sachs Skyhook Suspension Module

Clicking on "Iso Airbag Control" allows reading AND clearing fault codes. I have no Airbag error, so I obviously couldn't actually testing clearing one...
Clicking on "Automatic Gearbox" and then "Special Functions gets to all the gearbox set-up and wear readings.

Regarding: "Just done a check on what the maserati and ferrari modules are using in their clutch wear calculations as the are assuming incorrect throw out measurements.
Maserati v11.15 latest version is using 7mm
Ferrari module v10.95 is using 10.178
The correct figure should be 5.56mm so the clutch readings will always be on the optimistic side until they change the formula."
As per my long post, I have the same (latest) module versions. The Maserati one is using 7 like yours, but my Ferrari one (on F430 / CFC231)is definitely using 5.6

A big thanks again to you all.

Hi Tony. Its a while ago that i was in the Ferrari module. I cant remember but i think i was in the 360 module.

I will check and confirm when i can as it will be interesting if the fez modules are using different throw out numbers for the 360 and 430 modules.

Screen shot below which is how i arrived at 10.178

I only tried the f430 module - the F430 was concurrent with my late 4200 and the early F430's were CFC231. I expect that if you try again using F430 / CFC231 you'll get a wear percentage that uses 5.6 as the devisor.

I have updated a couple of times no problems and will buy another in 2 years rather than pay almost the same for updates.

Phil, what happens after the 2-year period? Just no more updates or can the diagnostic system no longer be used? I guess the first. Question that comes up then is, why would anyone with a specific type of Maser bother? What type of update would benefit e.g. a 3200 or Gransport? All possible kinds of errors are known by now, I would assume? I am just trying to think of what benefit an update could possibly bring. Obviously, a different story if you are professionally working on different types of brands/models or if you upgrade your Maser each year or so. But most of us are sticking to a certain Maser Model for longer than just 2 years (I guess?)

Spot on there Danny.
For me as a Motor Engineer earning a living I need to be up to date.

The launch system will still continue to work after the initial 2 years of free updates.

The main benefit of the updates for the home user is that they fix or tweak any bugs such as the incorrect throw out divider mentioned in the previous posts. Updates in the v10. Maserati modules range could not write the PIS setting with a decimal point which was fixed with the v.11 onwards updates.

The other advantage is if you have any other cars daily or otherwise that you change more often then the updates will be more useful.

Nothing to stop you going without updates for a year or two until you change your daily vehicle for example or until you found a specific need for an update.

In all honesty though if the tablet is 4 or 5 years old at that point the internal battery wont hold much charge and you may as well just replace the tablet part.

The internal tablet is usually a Huawei 8 or 10 inch model from the media pad range with a tough silicone case over it. So you can just buy a new tablet to get round the battery issue as and when it happens.

Launch allow you to download fresh software and all the modules up to the point that your update licence expired.

So for example if your licence expired in june 2020 you can load the software on a fresh tablet in january 2021 and still get all the updates upto and including june 2020. It will show you any update by brand that are available after that but you wont be able to use them.

Very helpful again !
I believe that my "mini" may be based on a Lenovo 7 inch tablet, but I'm not certain. The previous model definitely was, but my V3.0 coming without a "selfie" camera I'm not so sure.
I've read that the licence is actually linked to the dongle, not the tablet, and that it's possible to download the software onto a mobile phone (easier to carry around). Any experience of that, please? Where to download the application from?

Yes ive downloaded it onto my phone as well. I will try and find the link for you. The only issue i have found if its on your phone is as an example the read and write boxes for the PIS setting change position and dont show the labels until you click on them. The label then displays down the screen. Its a minor issue as long as you know where the tabs are as its scrunching up the display from 8 or 10 inch to a 5inch screen.

Many thanks - if you could find the link that would be great.

[QUOTE="mjheathcote,

However they won't entertain any modern Ferrari's or Maseratis with a 'computer' :(
[/QUOTE]

Excellent !
You can tell it's a genuine Ferrari typewriter from the logo on it !

Did you pair the dongle to the phone first Phil ?

Instructions for install on pdf attached.
If your talking to customer service they should be able to email over the file as the website quoted in the instructions seems to have had a cyber attack of some sort.

The instructions are the same even if your putting it on your phone or a spare tablet.

As mentioned I am also posting on a similar French forum. The guy helping me there provided me with this link ("at your own risk"):-

https://mobile.x431.com/m/sv.aspx?TypeId=36&fid=t8:36:8

Using this I have successfully loaded the Launch application onto my Android (Galaxy) smartphone, it has recognised my Launch sign-in, knows who I am, recognises it's an X431 Pros Mini V3, how long my two year free download period has to run - all looking very good. I get the same screens as on my X431 save for they are missing the lower portion.

HOWEVER what I haven't managed to do is to get it to do my free download.

It shows I have no modules loaded (that's understandable - they are, of course, stored on my x431), that I therefore have 103 modules to update, but when I click on "update " it whirls for a few seconds but nothing downloads, and it returns to the update page. If I click on "renew" I can pay $599 to renew - despite (on the same page) its giving the date of the end of my two years free update period.

Any ideas please ?
Tony

I assume you can't just buy the dongle and license, and load the software onto your own tablet/phone?

Is it possible with the X431 to tell the car (e.g. a Gransport) that a new clutch has been installed? My mechanic is currently using a tool where he can adjust the KISS point but after installing a new clutch, there is no possibility to reset the car’s memory, so the car still thinks that an old clutch is fitted
