A bit of nostalgia

Thruxton, looking from the paddock towards Club corner with the BARC member stands in the background. Possibly 1977 although I need to dig for confirmation. If you look closely, the 250GTO LM is just to the right of the van.

Because the first one is a GTS and the 2nd an S which was the last of the line and I believe is the more sought after model. It's like the difference between a QP 4.7 GTS and a standard QP and it's also 7 years younger. 928 GTS has always commanded a bigger premium over the other 928's.
Having owned 4 928s back in the day, including a '94 GTS for 17k miles in 18 months, I would not pick the last of them. I think the best cars were the 5.0 GT or the very rare SE. The GTS 5.4 was turbine smooth but lacked the character of the earlier V8s.

Even so the GTS does seems to be the desirable one if you look at prices and how they seem more than the other models........Maybe because it was newer car......

I suspect you are right Andy, newer helps, last of helps and I suspect the wider track and blistered arches. Though did you see the SE sell last week? https://www.silverstoneauctions.com...-classic-competition-cars/1988-porsche-928-se

Bloodyhell......That's some price. Some prices are crazy these days. There is a 1996 BMW 850 CSI for sale on Pistonheads with 10k on the clock for £130k. Wish I had bought an 850 when they were 9k......They will not be down that low again. 928, 850 are both great designs.....Always yearned for a 928 and they still look great today.

Hindsight Andy, we all have those moments stuff we should have bought and stuff we shouldn't have sold we would all be rich if we had the power of foresight

Apparently it's only a matter of time Andy. In 2030 you'll be able to take your pick of cheap exotics ;)

We would never have then moved onto the next, and would have missed out on the experiences and crossed paths with those we did. I don't regret selling any of mine, and there are a few big ticket items in my previous car history.

Hehhehehehehe...You could have a point there....
It's an interesting one - I increasingly have a feeling exotic cars will following the trajectory of antiques/brown furniture. For the longest time prices were high, and everyone from very rich sophisticated collectors to your average Joe bought the stuff as and when they could.

And then it all fell off a cliff as tastes changed. Of course there's still a market for giant antique furniture, look at firstdibs or any of the big auctioneers, but only for the best pieces, with the best provenance. the rest you can buy for peanuts

My two cents says prices for the best examples of the rarest and/or most iconic cars will continue to appreciate but the rest - let's call it cars in the c.£100k and less exotic market, the market where 'average' people could and would buy in when they finally had the money, will see values completely collapse and or disappear - especially for mass-produced cars like the 911, even cars like the 360 Modena - they made over 16k of those according to Wikipedia. They too will be seen as antiques, certainly desirable for people who like them and don't need the best of the best (that's me!), but by no means an appreciating asset and definitely not something most people will care about in 10 years time. We are a small and shrinking congregation.

There's a reason only (mostly) wealthy people own and play with horses these days, their needs and requirements are too out of step with how the world is experienced day to day by the vast majority of people.

I seem to have the problem that I like the rare version of nearly manufacturers output, I keep getting a real craving for a 222 Racing - I think I might need help

Perfect, I will buy a Bora for a couple of grand, park it in my living room, chuck the sofa, and watch TV from it. :)
