E-Sports: Please Explain

I watch a fair bit of motorsport on YouTube but for some reason it now thinks I want to watch E-sports too.

I don’t get it. Maybe because I didn’t grow up with Nintendo or PlayStation.

“Can I beat Bellof’s Nürburgring lap record?” No because you’re sat in your living room.

“How fast can I go round Silverstone in the wet”, going to be difficult as it’s dry there.

“This is the most difficult race car I’ve driven” no it’s not it’s a computer.

Can anyone explain or is this just darts for 12 year olds?

There is a whole generation of youngsters who spent all of the childhood playing video games and since they started having competitions with serious prize money then it becomes a thing, where people who are good at it can earn big money. So naturally the folks who have wasted their lives in front of a telly are interested in other people doing the same, I guess. Its unlikely to go away any time soon.
I remember some 15 years ago now when Halo 2 came out for Xbox, a game which had had a shot of and the sales of the game were at that time higher than the revenue from the biggest selling movie video, and I remember thinking at the time that times were changing.

I kinda get the fantasy stuff but watching Brian pretend to lap Spa and comment on it I don’t get at all.

I thought this was something completely different. Like It’s a Knockout but on ecstasy. Not that they needed it.

Got into this during lockdown . Got advice from my adult son and bought the full SIM racing kit- seat, wheel, pedals, wrap around screen and Xbox with Forza7

I do classic racing with my DB4 so know what the real thing is all about. Is it the same? Of course not, but not bad to familiarise yourself with an unfamiliar circuit layout and kept me off the booze etc during the worst of lockdown. If you mess up, you just rewind and do it again and crashing costs nothing. Happy days!

I remember taking my son and daughter snow boarding. My son who was about 12 at the time was devestated he couldn't transfer his play station skills into reality! That is the key word, reality.
