Correct. I use mine for the daily commute. Super comfy and imperious. A very relaxing way to get to and from the office.

We still love ours, it does every thing we want it to very well in deed

Yeah a Range Rover is a very accomplished vehicle indeed especially a V8 petrol or diesel.
Having driven the whole of NZ in my last one including Skippers Canyon near Queenstown a very dangerous road it does everything you can ask of it in style.

I didn't get Range Rovers until i'd actually owned one , big, heavy, don't go round corners very well

Of course mine was from the bottom of the pile but I really liked being in it , though I suspect a RR is a bit run of the mill for catman.

I wouldn't describe them as run of the mill, but not really floating my boat ;)

We were the same, we almost stole a 3.9 V8 P38 for £600 a few years ago and since then we have always had one, the current SC 5.0 V8 is just awesome and despite the running costs here, road tax over €2k, we have no plans to replace it

They've come a long way since 1982

I had a chat with this guy , farmer , had it for decades , I assumed from new they way he spoke

When I wrote run of the mill I probably should have written common because you cant drive a mile without seeing one these days

Bought and got fitted a replacement engine which was worse than the first one

Tested a DB9 today. 05, 40k on the clock. Dealer comission sale.

Seriously disappointed. Although it was up for top money (low mileage)

Dent in the grille
Odd scratches on the side windows
Paint bubbling on the side skirts
Wheels refurbished badly once. And needing doing again
Marks where the original rear plate had been removed.
Significant scratch on the rear quarter.
Cigarette burn on the driver's seat
Dash top lifting
A/C totally non-functional

Putting all that to one side for the drive
Would not pull away from a standing start smoothly. Bearing in mind this is the same ZF box as the GT and my Jaaaaaag, even on gravel this was a source of concern
Chattering from the rear diff at anything more than about half lock.
Brakes were 'ok' but not as good as the Jaaaaaags
Didn't feel that fast
Sounded OK, but no more than that.
Moderately comfortable

So I assume that I should be deeply worried about the pull away, and the chattering? A/C obvs could just be gassing, but given the low mileage between MOT's I'd be worried that the seals would have dried out as well.
What are the brakes normally like on these things?

Trying to test another one for comparison, but if it's not a lot better, it's out.

(They had a black '11 MC shift with not very many miles in as well. Had to have a poke. Was disturbingly like coming home....)

What a shame ours was not still available for you to try:

The grilles are notoriously fragile on the DB9 but otherwise the presentation and drive of the car you tested sounds disappointing.

The throttle on these though is a bit hair-trigger and difficult to modulate. That said you do get used to it. Personally the DB9 is nowhere near a Vanquish but then neither are they close on price. If you want an Aston at this price point and it cannot be a Vantage then it can tick that box in a beautiful if not dynamic way. Shame the example you were able to to try seemed tired to say the least.

I would rate an XK or a GranTurismo as much better driver cars though.

I'd be tempted by an F Type R V8, one of the early ones, for that money.

Leftfield choice, BMW Z3M Coupe. I'm loving mine that I bought from last september, great fun. Available from £20k to £40K depending on mileage. condition and whether an S50/S54

Oh and the Giulia Quad is heartily recommended! Still loving the quad! I'm in Essex if you want a looksy.

Classic Modern Cars - Aston Martin DB9, 14K Miles, 2005

Aye. Red's not for me, though ;)

The grilles are notoriously fragile on the DB9

Really? It felt like extruded alloy? Pretty robust I thought.

Hmmm, OK. I'm surprised by that as it wasn't particularly (hair trigger) on the road as it were. The chattering from the diff concerned me more.

Thanks for the input!

Just on take off for the throttle and yes bizarrely throttle response on the road then not so much. They are supposed to have the diff oil replaced every 4 years/40K miles sadly often neglected even though only around £200 even at a main dealer. The grilles are OK materials but clipped together with something not really designed for purpose and depending on the finish prone to chipping and water marking. They often fall apart, get chipped and generally look ****. But easily dealt with.

But are arent they still plagued by reliability issues?
